William Mason Landry, Sr.

William "Cannonball" Mason Landry, Sr. - age 90, of Mobile, AL, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 26, 2023, surrounded by his family. Cannonball was a devoted and loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved Alabama football, building absolutely anything, and could tell a tale like no other. Cannonball was an active member of Bellingrath Road Baptist Church, where he loved his pastor and church family. Overall, his favorite thing to do was spend time with family and friends. He'd tell you the same story 20 times, but never let anyone walk away without a smile. If you ever had the pleasure of meeting him, you know he is unforgettable. After finishing school, he joined the The United States Marine Corps. Following his time in the Marines, he returned home to join the United Association Local 119 in February 1953, and worked as a welder for the next 50 years. He retired in February 2003, but remained an active member until his last day. Being a part of the UA Local 119 for over 70 years made him the man he was throughout life. He was a founding member of the American Legion Post 250 Fowl River, AL and a member of the American Legion Post 250 and the Honor Guard for many years. Some of his proudest moments and accomplishments include acquiring two U.S. patents for trailer hitches he invented and also single handedly building the flag pole that stands in front of the American Legion Post 250 in Fowl River, AL. Cannonball is preceded in death by his parents, Alma and Oscar Landry; son, William "Billy" Landry, Jr.; daughter, Deborah Nunnery; beloved friend, Velree Keener; as well as brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his children, Pam (Bennie) Goldman, Terri (John) Ziegler, Kasandra Thornton; grandchildren Brittney Myers, Steven Nunnery, Jeffery Hamilton, Bennie (Heather) Goldman Jr., Jeremy (Brittany) Goldman, Kimberleigh Landry, Courtney Landry, Tara Landry, Travis Landry, Mason Ziegler, Jaylin Ziegler, Chelsea Thornton, Hannah Thornton, Blakeley Thornton; brother Charles Landry; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and dear friends. His Celebration of Life will be held at Serenity Funeral Home on Friday, June 30, 2023, at 12:00PM. Visitation will be at 10:00AM for family and 11:00AM for friends. The service will be followed by a graveside ceremony presented by the Honor Guard. Reception after all services will be held at the American Legion Post 250 in Fowl River.
