William Cleveland Huff

Age 70, a resident of Wilmer, AL passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2016. Funeral service will be held at Wilmer First Baptist Church on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 12 noon with visitation starting at 10 am until service time. Interment will be in Wilmer Community Cemetery.William “Butch” Cleveland Huff, Coach Huff, Mr. Butch, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.July 6, 2016 in his home. He was born in Mobile, the son of Philip and Margaret Huff. He graduatedfrom Satsuma High School and went on to receive his BS from Mobile College, his MA from theUniversity of Mobile, and his administrative degree from the University of South Alabama.In 1968 he was married to the former Nancy Harbin at Shiloh Baptist Church in Saraland. They havethree children.Butch was a retired teacher and coach having worked at Faith Academy, Shaw, Montgomery, and BakerHigh Schools, touching the lives of hundreds of young people. He also worked for 12 years at the MobileDuPont Plant. Coach Huff was an active member of Wilmer First Baptist Church where he served as achurch trustee, deacon, adult Sunday School teacher and in numerous other ministries.He leaves behind his loving wife of 47 years, Nancy, his son Scott, daughter Traci and her husbandMichael Liles, daughter Kellie, and nephew Jake. He also leaves his granddaughters, Anna, Averi, Alia,and Gracie. He is survived by his precious mother-in- law, Mabry Atchison Harbin. He also leaves hisbrother Gary and wife Geraldine, and very special nieces and nephews, Lynn, Jennifer, Rachel, Ken,Philip, Larry, and Justin. He leaves others who call him Uncle Butch, Coach, Mr. Butch, and Poppa as wellas his Dirt Road Choir family. He was predeceased by a sister, Sue and a brother Steve and his wife,Geneva, and his parents, Philip and Margaret Huff.Funeral services will be held at Wilmer First Baptist Church with visitation from 10-12 and a celebrationof his life at 12:00 with graveside following at Wilmer Community Church.Butch said that all of his friends and family gave him his “flowers” while he was on this earth and flowerswere not needed at his death but rather to spend the money on a fun family activity that wouldstrengthen family relationships as a way of celebrating of his life and have his favorite “dessert” - moonpies OR in lieu of flowers make a donation to the CIDP/Guillain-Barre’ Foundation International.
