ROCHELLA BENITA UNDERWOOD JANUARY 05, 1959 – JANUARY 24, 2025 Rochella Benita Underwood, a cherished native of Mobile, Alabama, was born on January 5, 1959, and peacefully departed this life on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Mobile Infirmary Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of her devoted family. Her passing marks the end of a life filled with compassion, unwavering faith, and a profound dedication to her family, friends, and community. Rochella was a proud graduate of Mattie T. Blount High School, Class of 1977. She built a fulfilling career as a Certified Nursing Assistant, providing compassionate and dedicated care while tirelessly serving and assisting patients throughout Mobile. Beyond her hands-on caregiving, Rochella expanded her contributions to the healthcare field by managing a medical supply store, exemplifying her unwavering commitment to service and her passion for supporting the well-being of others. At an early age, Rochella gave her life to Christ and remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life. She was a faithful member of Whitestone Missionary Baptist Church, where she served with unwavering dedication and love. Rochella found great joy in serving as an usher, warmly welcoming members and visitors alike with her kind spirit and bright smile always striving to be a beacon of light and encouragement to those around her. Additionally, Rochella was a proud and active member of the Daughter’s of the Elks, where she generously contributed her time and energy to community enrichment and service. Through her involvement, she participated in charitable events and initiatives aimed at uplifting those in need. Her dedication to the organization reflected her passion for fostering unity and creating a positive impact within her community. A devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, Rochella embraced life with a vibrant spirit. She found joy in traveling, creating memories with her family, and connecting with friends as a true social butterfly. Rochella was a proud member of both the Trinity Gardens and Prichard communities, where she was known for her open heart and open door, always offering a sanctuary for those in need. Her bright smile, bold honesty, and big heart left an unforgettable impact on everyone she encountered. Rochella is preceded in death by her fathers, Woodrow Wilson Phinisee and Polen Pettaway; her mother, Annette Marie (James) Washam; her beloved husband, Maurice Underwood; her brother, Christopher Young; and her niece, April Underwood. She leaves behind to cherish her loving memory her devoted children, Tashandra Underwood, Quitisha (Kenneth) Underwood-McDavis, and Shamekia (Ralph) Chapman; her cherished grandchildren, Isaiah Chapman and Gabriel Chapman; her siblings, Kenneth Washam, Cleveland (Jaqueline) Phinisee, Betty Phinisee, and Raymond Phinisee; her dedicated sister-in-law, Artelius Colley; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts. Visitation will be held at Serenity Funeral Home Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 9 am until 11 am. Service will be held in the Chapel at Serenity Funeral Home on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 11 am. Interment will be in Lawn Heaven Memorial Gardens.
