Lillie Bryant Barnes

Lillie D. Bryant, was born, delivered by a midwife, on Wednesday, June 18, 1926 at 10:00 p.m. in her parents' home on Drewry Road in Monroeville, Monroe County, Alabama. She was the second daughter, and fourth child to be born into the loving union of David and Annie Watson-Bryant. As time progressed, there were five boys and three girls who were blessed into this family, born in this order: Caesar, Carrie Ree, Lessel, Lillie, David, Mary Bell, LeVarn, and Hphear. Lillie was a native of Monroeville. Later in life her father prospered, and moved his family to Atmore, Alabama where she completed school. Lillie moved to Mobile after her first union of marriage was unsuccessful. Lillie, with four beautiful daughters whom she loved and cared for dearly, were so blessed. A gentleman by the name of Leo Barnes introduced himself, and later proposed. They were united before God in holy matrimony by the late reverend, Dr. Abraham Nettles. Leo and Lillie conceived and brought forth a son, who was named Allan after his great-great-great-grandfather. Julian was given by his mother, and his surname, Barnes. All seven of them moved west, to the new Hillsdale Heights subdivision. She attended Springhill College and the University of Alabama while working in the cafeteria at Hillsdale High School. Lillie completed her course of studies and progressed to the next level of education, moving on into the Head Start program as a teacher. To this day, her students still remember her and the impact she had in their lives. Lillie D. Barnes was a faithful servant of God; a faithful member reading and studying His word daily. She would bake cakes and prepare three meals a day caring for the sick. She had a spirit of forgiveness and to always see the good in everyone. Lillie departed this life on Friday, October 14, 2022, and was preceded in death by loving husband, Leo Barnes; parents, David Bryant, Sr. and Annie Watson-Bryant; siblings, Caesar Bryant, Carrie Ree Bryant-Chaney-Williams, Lessel Bryant, David Bryant, Jr. and Hphear Bryant. Lillie D. Barnes leaves a legacy of love and deep affection for her children that knew no bounds. That unlimited devotion that will be forever remembered by her only loyal and loving son, Allan Julian Barnes of Mobile, Alabama; four daughters, Rosie M. Bush Hayes of Sanford, NC, Shirley A. Bush-Edie-Sergent-(Sye) Rahman, Deborah A. Bush, and Frankie M. Bush-Daniels-Harvey of Mobile, Alabama; a host of dearly beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, friends, neighbors, and her last and only beloved sister-in-law, Mary Frances White-Bryant. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 from 9-11 AM at Serenity Funeral Home, followed by service at 11 AM. Interment will be held in Serenity Memorial Gardens. “I will see you around the throne of God as we worship.”
