James Franklin Snyder Sr.

James “Jimmy” F. Snyder, Sr., 79, of Mobile, Alabama, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025 at his home surrounded by family. Jimmy was born on June 1st, 1946, to Charles and Alma Mae Snyder in Mobile, Alabama. He graduated from Theodore High School. In 1964, he was married to the one and only love of his life, Marilyn Ann Snyder. They remained married for nearly 60 years. In 1964, Jimmy joined the United States Navy and served one combat tour in Vietnam. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. In 1973, he was medically retired due to the injuries he sustained in Vietnam. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for Saunders Engine Company until he retired in 2009. Jimmy and Marilyn had three children. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and served with the Shehan-Pake Chapter #7. Jimmy lived a long and fulfilling life as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud Vietnam veteran. Jimmy is survived by his daughters, Mary Hayes and Christina (Chris) Hayes; granddaughters Rachel Johnson (Ryan), Suzanne Schmitz, Brooke (Perry) Lundy, Madison Parker, and Emily (Steven) Blake; great-grandson, Noah James Johnson; great-granddaughters Rebekah Johnson and Ella Lundy; and siblings, Charles Snyder, Wayne (Karen) Snyder, Anna (Mike) Willmann, Ricky (Diana) Snyder, and Candy (Jim) Lincoln. He also leaves behind two beloved dogs, Beau and Lily. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Ann Snyder; son, James F. Snyder, Jr; parents Charles A. Snyder, Sr., and Alma Mae Clements; brother, Richard Clements, Jr; and son-in-law, Richard L. Hayes, Sr. Serving as pallbearers are Suzanne Schmitz, Emily Hayes, Perry Lundy, Petty Officer Second Class Noah James Johnson, Ryan Greer, and Kevin Boswell. Serving as honorary pallbearerwill be Nello Barber. Services will be held at Serenity Funeral Home and Gardens on Thursday, October 2, 2025. The family will receive visitors from 12 pm till 2 pm. Chapel service will be held at 2 pm with interment following in Serenity Memorial Gardens. Jimmy will receive full military honors.
