Ellyn Joyce Collett

Ellyn Joyce Collett left this life for eternal glory on August 28, 2023, surrounded by her family as they all took turns saying their goodbyes while holding her hands. Her beautiful spirit will live on in her large extended family. She was a true and faithful servant of God. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran church for 51 years. She was an avid member of the LWML and held many offices with the missionary organization. She retired from JC Pennys and loved working at The Pillars for many years. She was born in 1942 and was raised in Los Angeles. While living in Los Angeles, she rode and raced Enduro Motorcycles, and was a Jaycette during her 20’s. Then she and her husband, along with a dog, two cats and four daughters drove a station wagon from California to Mobile in 1972 where she planted. She loved people and helping others. In Mobile, she was a youth group leader and a Girl Scout leader. She and her husband sponsored several Junior Miss Pageant Contestants in their home as well as foreign exchange students. Her home was always open to anyone who needed a roof over their head. In 2005, she opened her home to those fleeing Hurricane Katrina and worked in the storm shelter at her church. She always made everyone feel welcome. She was a remarkable woman, never got angry, always stayed positive no matter the circumstance. Ellyn shared a very close relationship with her only sibling and sister, Francine. She married at age of 19 to Roy James Collett who preceded her death. She leaves behind four devoted daughters, Terri Carmack (Terry), Laurie Johansen (Joey), Renee Farnell (Aldon) and Nichole Renauld. Ellyn leaves behind 7 grandchildren, Heather (Tim), DJ (Bethany), Marisa (Jonathan), Chris (Kathryn), Brad (McKenzie), Ashley, Joyce and 7 great grandchildren, Cohen, Bronson, Augustine, Lennon-Kate, Lily-Ann, Mary, Ross and her precious cats, Catspur and Noelle. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church on Wednesday, September 13 at 11 a.m. In memory of Ellyn, the family asks that donations be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church or the church’s LWML, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
