Cora Lee May

Cora Lee May was born in Grovehill, AL to the union of Marshall Thomas and Delilah Thomas on May 27, 1933. She graduated from high school in 1951 then attended Bishop State Junior College in 1953 in Mobile, AL to which she became a resident of until her death, December 18, 2020. Mrs. May married William Gray May, Sr. on January 12, 1954 and together had three children. The couple was married until death did them part Sept 15, 2016. She was employed with Mobile Infirmary Hospital for over 20 years. Mrs. May was known as Madea in the neighborhood. She was a loyal, loving, caring, and devoted wife and mother, as well as mother-in-law to Elfie Carter. Mrs. May was preceded in death by her father, Marshall Thomas; mother and step-father, Delilah and Henry Stewart; husband, William Gray May, Sr.; two sisters, Ida Mary Cunningham and Dolly Leonard; one brother, James Thomas; six brothers-in-law, Laphate Cunningham, Sr., J.D. Leonard; Eddie Spencer, Murray Spencer, Joe Spencer, and Frank Spencer; two daughters-in-law, Vanessa May and Giraldine May. She is survived by two sons, Abraham Leon of Poconos, PA and William Gray (Pamela) May, Sr. of Mobile, AL; daughter, Stephanie May of Saucier, MS; three grandchildren, Willie Marshall May, Andy May, and Samuel May of Rapid City, SD; two sisters-in-law, Elfie Compon and Bertha Spencer; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends, devoted Barber Ann Sawyer, Pamela Ramos, and Vernell Davis. Graveside service will be held at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens on Monday, Dec 28, 2020 at 11 AM with visitation from 9-11 AM at Serenity Funeral Home. Interment will be held in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
