Mrs. Carolyn Draime Gaydos

Carolyn Louise (Draime) Gaydos Carolyn Gaydos, 77, passed away with her family by her side on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Ethel Estelle (Lott) and George Robert Draime Sr; brothers, George Robert Draime, Jr, Jesse Earl Draime, Dossie Francis Draime, and William Wayne Draime; parents-in-law, Mary Alice (Martin) and John Gaydos, Jr.; and son-in-law, Charles M. Alexander. Carolyn was born on July 15, 1946, in Gulf Crest, AL to Ethel Estelle (Lott) and George Robert Draime. She later moved to Mobile and attended Mae Eanes and Murphy High School. After marrying Thomas (Tommy) Martin Gaydos on April 29, 1963, the US Airforce stationed the couple in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Eventually, she and Tommy moved back to Mobile, calling it their permanent home. Carolyn mothered 3 children and dedicated her life to them selflessly. Carolyn was always a very active volunteer at the schools her children attended, from Room Mother to 1st Aide Volunteer to PTA President, she was always involved and ready to help. She worked for MCPSS as a school bus driver and substitute teacher at W.C. Griggs Elementary for many years. After a period of being a “stay-at-home” mom, her love for children led her to Providence Park Child Development Center, where she ultimately became Assistant Director. Because she had a knack for numbers, she was asked to move to the accounting department at Volunteers of America and worked there until her retirement. Carolyn loved Alabama Football and enjoyed traveling to the games with Tom as a “Tide Pride” member. She adored wildlife, watching the hummingbirds on their feeders, and nesting bluebirds in her backyard. She and Tom watched countless Western movies, her favorites being those starring Audie Murphy. Carolyn was smart and could not be beaten at trivia games or crossword puzzles. For those who knew her well, she had a comedic gift that kept them in stitches. She devoted her life to her family and had a heart of gold, putting everyone else’s needs before her own. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 61 years, Thomas (Tommy) Martin Gaydos; children, Vickie (Tony) Hendrix, Sherry Alexander and Gary Gaydos; grandchildren, Kristy (Joseph) Jordan, Brett (Morgan) Hendrix, Gunner (Savanah) Hendrix, Natalie Alexander, Sydney Alexander and Jacob Alexander; and great-grandchildren, Knox, Sadie & Nash Jordan, Walker & Cooper Marie Hendrix and Ellie Hendrix.
