Carl Britton Deakle

Carl Britton Deakle, age 85, died July 19th, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas; 10 days after he buried his loving wife of 67 years. He was born on January 25th, 1939, in Grand Bay, Alabama to Ella Mae and Jackson Zebulon Deakle. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Nancy Deakle, his daughter, Darlene Carr, and his grandson, Shane Whitworth. He is survived by his three daughters and son-in-laws: Teresa and Kevin Batten, Debbie Thorn and Tammy & John Halbrooks, his brother, Bud Deakle, sisters-in-laws, Nelly Grace Deakle, Martha Deakle, Becky Deakle, and Pat Goleman, as well as numerous nephews, & nieces,11 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He graduated with his undergrad in 1963 and his master’s degree in ‘64 from the University of Alabama. He was a huge Roll Tide fan!!! He never missed watching a game and attended several over the years. He served in the United States Air Force for 23 years and retired as a full Colonel in 1987. He served in the Vietnam War during 1970 & 1971. He loved and was very proud to wear his veteran’s cap with the renowned scrambled eggs on it. He loved teaching Sunday school and was an active member and Deacon at Union Baptist Church in Grand Bay, Alabama for many years. He owned a couple of businesses including Pac-N-Mail and Plaza Auto Parts. He also had side businesses including rental houses, remodeling houses, and was a financial advisor with regards to insurance and annuities. He even revamped a family pound cake recipe and sold the recipe in a magazine. He was quite an entrepreneur. He loved growing a garden and his customers, family and friends loved his tomatoes! He was known for his delicious world-famous biscuits, red-eye gravy, and his well-known shrimp gumbo. He loved to cook! He loved old cars and tractors and loved traveling in his younger days. Dad & mom both loved taking cruises and traveling the world. He had a generous and giving spirit and blessed many people over his life. He is finally at peace and can take a deep cleansing breath. Honorary pallbearers will be Shey Thorn, Sean Carr, Joseph Thorn, Justin Otto, Cody Batten and Bryan Batten. His service will be held at Union Baptist Church in Grand Bay, Alabama on July 25th - viewing from 10:00-11:00 and funeral service 11:00-12:00 followed by interment.
