Beatrice Jane Thomas

Beatrice Jane Thomas of Mobile, Alabama, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on September 22, 1945, in Choctaw County, Alabama, to the late Lillie Vee Morgan Puckett and Howard Bankston, Jane called Mobile home most of her life. Fiercely devoted to her family and friends, and extremely outspoken, Jane was always the one to take care of sick family members, lend a helping hand, provide a shoulder to lean on, an ear to listen, hugs, a word of encouragement and a prayer for all. She was generous beyond measure, never expecting anything in return. Jane loved the outdoors and enjoyed a number of skilled hobbies, including fishing, hunting, camping, and gardening. As her health declined, she was happy to spend countless hours sitting on the porch watching and listening to the wildlife. She had a lifelong passion for gospel music. While she held a variety of occupations during her lifetime, Jane’s favorite was being a substitute teacher. She loved nurturing and teaching children. This love extended into the many hours spent volunteering with the local Cub Scout Pack. Jane was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Larry Thomas; brothers, Jesse Bankston and Nina (N.H.) Bankston; niece, Tara Bankston Smith; and nephew, Phillip Bankston. She is survived by her daughter, Naomi “Beth” (Jeff) Adams; son, Steven Kyle (Brianne) Thomas; the light of her life, her grandchildren, Blake H. Adams, Liberty Regan Thomas and Annalia Noelle Thomas; nieces, nephews and many others in her extended family, to which she was a beloved mother and grandmother figure. The family would like to express deep gratitude to her caregiver, Denise Smith, the staff of HomeRN and to Courtney Nix for their commitment, loving care, support, and friendship provided to Jane and the entire family. Also, to the LTACH team and Dr. Robert Percy at Mobile Infirmary for their exceptional care. Jane’s memory will live on through her devoted family and the many lives she touched during her lifetime. Visitation will be held at Serenity Funeral Home on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Serenity Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Blake Adams, Jeffrey Adams, Jr., Carl Bankston, Roy Copeland, Brad Smith, and Steve Welch. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to your favorite charity.
