Alva Mae Barbour

Alva Mae Titherington Barbour, affectionately known as Mae Mae, a beloved mother, grandmother, great and great great grandmother and faithful servant of God and faithful member of San Souci Baptist Church in Coden, passed away peacefully at her home May1, 2025, at the age 94. A Lifelong resident of Coden, Alabama, she leaves behind legacy of love, strength, and devotion to both her family and her faith. Alva Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Junior Barbour. Together, they built a life rooted in hard work and community, co-founding J & B Seafood, Inc. in 1979—Bayou la Batre’s oldest seafood company, which she continued to work in until she was 86 years old. She is also preceded in death by her sisters: Betty Sprinkle, Doris Bosarge, Annie Barbour, Ethel Barbour and Bertha Davis. She is survived by one sister: Brenda Carol Coyle of Albany, GA, and one 1st cousin: Florence Hagy of Irvington AL. She is lovingly survived by her children: Darlene (Hank) Cliburn their Children: Danielle, and Lisa, Ramond T. Barbour and his children: Brad, Austin and Jamie, Priscilla Ann (Clayton) Steele their children: Iris and Dara, Ray Booney (Sheila) Barbour Jr. their children: Shana and Jada., Vurba Ary (Kenny) Sprinkle their children: Rhonda and Amy, Weezzie Jemison her children: Mandy, Tyler, Lyndsey and Trystyn and Carysyn, and Donald Barbour and his children: Kimberlyn and Justin. Her family also includes numerous, grandchildren, great and great–great—grandchildren, and other extended relatives who will cherish her memory always. A special thanks and deep gratitude go to her devoted caretakers, Mandy, Lyndsey and Carsyn Mareno, who provided loving support and fun times with their nanny. Alva Mae was deeply active in her church and lived her life guided by her unwavering love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her faith as well as her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she shared her faith and love generously with all who knew her. Her Strength, Wisdom, and warmth touched countless lives, and her presence will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and the community she served so faithfully. Pallbearers: Donald Barbour, Kenny Sprinkle, Ethan Peterson, Justin Barbour, Tyler Fickling, Trystyn Mareno, Brad Barbour and Austin Barbour. Funeral Service will be held 2:00pm at San Souci Baptist Church on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Visitation will be 12 noon until service time. Interment will follow in Oddfellow's Cemetery.
