Alma Christine Gibbs

Alma Christine (Hudson) Gibbs, age 88, of Theodore, AL passed away on Sunday April 14, 2019. Alma was born September 17, 1930. A visitation for Alma will be held Friday, April 19, 2019 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Serenity Funeral Home, 8691 Old Pascagoula Road, Theodore, Alabama 36582. A funeral service will occur Friday, April 19, 2019 at 12:00 PM, 8691 Old Pascagoula Road, Theodore, Alabama 36582. An interment will occur at Serenity Memorial Gardens, 8851 Old Pascagoula Rd., Theodore, AL 36582. Alma Christine was born on Sept. 17, 1930, in Coffee County Alabama to farmers James David and Belle Hudson. At times, Christine may have needed to worry about whether or not she would have shoes for winter but she never had to worry about being lonely because she would eventually have 12 siblings to keep her company. Christine is survived by one sister, Lurline Sumpter. Imagine a family that size….that must have been one long outhouse line! Christine grew into a lovely young woman and was working in a diner one day when a handsome young milkman caught her eye. She fell in love and married John Brown when she was just 17 and he 18. The young couple wasted no time in starting a family and quickly had 4 daughters within a 5 year span. Those daughters from the oldest to the youngest were Dollie, Shirley, Dianne, and Ruth. The oldest daughter Dollie preceded Christine in passing but Christine was thankful that she was there to care for Dollie during her illness. The 3 younger daughters are here today to celebrate their mother’s life. I’m not sure if you can refer to three senior citizens as younger but they asked me to be sure and include that word. Christine had a large family with 9 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren (# 23 on the way), and 2 great-great granddaughters. Whew! Thank goodness they have indoor plumbing now cause that’s a whole lot of folks! If there was one constant you could depend on with Christine it was that she loved unconditionally. She was all about church, family, and friends. She spent her Sunday afternoons reaching out to others by phone just to say “I was thinking about you and I love you”. Her daughters know very well how Christine loved to talk on the phone. Oh, the number of phones she wore out! Christine had a long and full life and was deeply loved by her family and friends. She was a long time member of Regency Church of Christ. When Christine’s health would no longer allow her to attend church, she got such great joy and comfort from receiving cards and visits from her pastor and her church brothers and sisters. Her family would like to thank those faithful friends as well as the nurses and aids at Lynwood Nursing Home that were kind enough to make Christine’s stay more comfortable. As many of us do, Christine faced many difficult times during her interval here on earth, but her faith never wavered. Christine knew there was a better place that had been prepared for her and she was ready to meet her Lord and Savior. We have no doubt that she is rejoicing right now.
