Willie Mae Morrissette

Willie Mae Was born in Dothan, Alabama on October 25, 1944 to the late Fannie and Cheeseboro Anderson. She completed her early education in Alabama and made her way to New York City. Willie Mae met and married the late James A. Morrissette, from this union two children was born, Sabrina and Juan who both preceded her in death. Upon moving to New York City, Willie Mae accepted Christ and was baptized. Her early foundation was under the AME faith. She eventually joined the First Corinthian Baptist Church in Harlem. At First Corinthian Baptist, she served under four Pastors: Reverend T.H. McKenzie Sr., Reverend T.H. McKenzie Jr., Reverend E. Derrik Porter and the current Pastor, Reverend Michael A. Walrond Jr.. For many years she was the President of the Pastor's Aide Ministry as well as serving on the Trustee Board. When her health issues started and she could no longer consistently make the journey to New York City, she began to worship at St. Luke's Cathedral in Laurelton, New York, under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Michael A. Baston, Esq. Willie Mae joined Invincible Temple #77, of the Improved, Benevolent, and Protective order of Elks of the World in 1974. Sponsored by PGDR Gladys Taylor, Daughter Morrissette was an active member. She began as the temple's Jr. Guardian, mentoring the children of the Rosa L. Blocker Drill Team and Junior Temple. In Invincible Temple, she served all stations and was the Daughter Ruler for many years. She received her Past State President Honors and continued to receive the highest Honor in Elkdom through the Anniversary and Flowers Department of the Grand temple Daughters of Elks, the late PGDR Mary E. Jones, Grand Directress. In 1993, she assumed the title of Grand Directress of the Rainbow Charity Department of the Grand Temple. This department was created in 1964 in Invincible Temple and she worked hard to bring it to where it is today and she briefly serves as the Grand District Deputy of Eureka Temple #22A. In 2008, PSP Willie Mae Morrissette was elected and installed as the 11th President of the New York State Daughters of Elks; a position she served proudly, until Our Heavenly Father called her home. In 1991 the Late PM Mary E. Hannah, sponsored Willie Mae in joining Golden Gate Chapter #40 Prince Hall Order of eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron from 2003-2004. Upon moving to New York she attended classes at New York University and a Catering School, she tutored and worked under many outstanding Chefs. Being the enterprising individual, she established "Catering with a Flair" and was quite successful. Her catering services/presentations were requested throughout New York City. She worked for many years and retired from New York Presbyterian Hospital as an Evening Administrator. Affectionately known as "Morrissette" quite a family oriented person, she will be sorely missed at the family reunions. She was also an avid bowler with the Senior Birds Platinum Ladies. She leaves to morn: her Sisters Stella Goines (Mt. Vernon. NY), Virginia (Clifford) Richardson (Sacramento, CA) and Brother Cecil Anderson (Panola, CA), two Grandsons: Randy E. Williams, II and Alfonso J. Morrissette (Atlanta, GA), two Great Grand Children, Sariyah Williams (Winston Salem, NC) and King Williams (Atlanta, GA), Loving Nephew and Niece, Corey Goines (NY) and Renee (Michael) Walker (NY), loving Godson, Keith "Tony" Francis (NY), loving friends Robert Gibbs, Trissamae Johnson, Louise Williams, Paulette Y. Daniels (NY) and Gennifer J. Parker (McDougal, GA), Two Son-in-Laws Willie Ward (Dothan, AL) and Randy E. Williams, Sr. (VA), Two childhood best friends Annie Pearl and Aurelia Betts (Mobile, AL) and a host of other loving nieces and nephews, fraternal family and friends. Tearfully done, The Family
