Valorie Lynn Slade

Valorie Lynn (Bendolph) Slade was the seventh child of Roosevelt and Ella Mae Bendolph, born in Mobile, Alabama at Blessed Martin De Pores Hospital on August 2, 1959. She departed this earth on May 15, 2025 at the age of 65. Valorie was a very active and rambunctious child. She always got into any and everything as a child. She lost her eyesight in her right eye at 5 years of age, but it never stopped her from doing things in life. She excelled in elementary school and middle school. She had an excellent speaking voice and won The Elks Oratorical contest in the 2nd grade. She also won The Mary Weeks Burroughs award for outstanding speech. She graduated in 1977 from Mattie T. Blount high school where she served as the Student Council President. She attended and graduated from Bennett College, in Greensboro, NC in 1982, and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition. In 1982, she was inducted in the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She attended the University of Tennessee for her Master of Science Degree in Nutrition. Valorie began her work career in Washington, DC where she worked for The Department of Agriculture as a School Nutrition Specialist from 1979 until 1981. She also worked for Marriott Inc. (Sodexho) for 20 years as a Food Services Director and Catering Manager, in jobs that required her to move frequently and living in cities like, Winston Salem, NC, Atlanta, Ga, Memphis, TN, Dublin, Ga, Augusta, Ga, and Little Rock, AR. Along the way she met and got to know many people. As Catering Manager, she hosted an array of events for many high profiled people. One of her many accomplishments included a luncheon for the former President Bill Clinton in Little Rock, AR. In 1996 she met and married Marvin Edward Slade Jr of Sanford, NC and they remained joined in their union until finally succumbing to her death to metastatic breast cancer. On December 30, 1998, she gave birth to her pride and joy, a daughter, Taylor Christiane Slade. In 2008, she was diagnosed with Stage IV Breast Cancer in which she survived, but later developed Metastatic Breast Cancer. In 1985, she gave her life to Christ and was baptized at the Howard Chapel, United Methodist Church, in Dublin, Ga. She later joined and became a member of St Paul United Methodist Church in Kernersville, NC. She preceded in death by her parents Roosevelt and Ella Mae Bendolph and sister Janice Faye Bendolph. Valorie leaves to morn her passing her husband Marvin Edward Slade Jr and one daughter, Taylor Christiane Slade, six sisters and one brother. Patsy (James) Parrish, Rose (Paul) Peterson, James (Lucy) Bendolph, Sylvia Brown, Doris Green Jacqueline (William) Carter, Vanessa (Wayne) Zachery. Three devoted nieces Karla Harris, Paula Green and Jardyn Alexis Zachery. A devoted family in law Firmandor Harris. She also leaves a devoted friend, Angela Sims Hallowell of Mobile, Al and a host of other relatives and friends she met during her life.
