Thomas Patrick Fleming

Our beloved Thomas “Tommy” Patrick Fleming, age 68, of Dauphin Island, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 surrounded by loved ones. Tommy stood strong in his faith, telling family and friends not to feel sorry or cry for him, for he knew he was going to be with our Lord. He loved his church family at Dauphin Island United Methodist Church and has them to thank for his steadfast belief. Tommy was born in Jasper, AL and graduated from Walker County High School before enlisting in the US Army where he served 24 years as a transportation specialist. He earned many awards during his service and retired as a Master Sergeant. While in the military he developed a love for travel, collecting experiences far and wide across the globe. Tommy could be counted on to join most any adventure, especially if it involved the outdoors and spending time in nature. In his younger years he could often be found gardening, hiking, swimming, kayaking, and water skiing. While stationed in Germany, he once raced kayaks down snowbanks from the second story barracks window! As he got older his time in nature was spent taking walks with his wife, Kim, at Bellingrath Gardens or at the Bird Sanctuary on Dauphin Island where they had their first date. He also took his beloved dog, Buddy, to the beach and on car rides across the island daily. Tommy was a HUGE Alabama fan his entire life. Alabama football games were the best excuse for him to gather loved ones and entertain (yelling at the TV the whole time of course). It also gave him a reason to cook, which he loved and learned by watching his mother and grandmother. To know Tommy was to love him. His charisma lit up the room (and all the rooms down the hall) and his laughter was infectious. He believed in doing things right, and doing things big! Tommy was most proud of bringing a beautiful daughter, Melissa, into the world, his service to our country, and his marriage to Kim. He will be missed, and those who love him find comfort in knowing he is at peace with the Lord. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Fleming and Shirley Coulter (Leroy Coulter), grandmother Vera Rosser, and uncle Foster Rosser. He is survived by his wife Kimberly, daughter, Melissa Fleming (Madison Leach), stepdaughter, Brianna Childers (Leroy Sargent), grandchild, Mason Leach, brother, Ross Fleming, niece, Emily Dean, his furry best friend, Buddy, other relatives, and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at Dauphin Island United Methodist Church on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
