Ruby Nell Meadows

My Ruby Nell Meadows was born in Pelahatchie, Mississippi, on May 3, 1938. She grew up in Mississippi, and later her family moved to Georgia for a few years. She was a good student and, after she graduated, moved to the city of Mobile Alabama. She worked at Brookley Field. She was introduced to her husband, Elbert Marion Meadows, by a friend. Their first date was the circus, and she joked that it had been a circus since. She later moved to Tuscaloosa for my father to finish college. By then, they had their first child, Joe. They returned to Mobile and lived there for most of Elbert’s career. They later had a daughter, Debra. Ruby returned to work when Debra was in high school and later retired. She loved to travel with her husband. They went to Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, and many other places. Once Elbert retired, they got a fifth wheel and traveled all over the country, including visiting her daughter and grandchildren in Oregon. She loved spending time with her family and cooking for them. She was a faithful wife, a wonderful mother, a loving grandmother, and a good friend. Most of all, she loved the Lord. She became a Christian when she was in her 20s at Travis Road Baptist church. The church was like a family to her. She was a wonderful example of faithfulness to the Lord, to her husband, to her children, and to others. As her daughter, I can honestly say she was the finest person I have ever known. She faithfully took care of my father during his battle with Alzheimer’s. She did not waver from any of her commitments. She loved her family and was dearly loved by her family and friends. I am certain that she is now healed and whole with the Lord and so many loved ones. I look forward to one day seeing that smile, which was a great source of encouragement to me and to others She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and son, Joe Meadows. She is survived by her daughter Debra Smith and son-in-law Tommy Smith, her daughter-in-law Lori Meadows, grandchildren Dylan Smith, David Smith, Chase Meadows, and Hunter Meadows, her sister Clara, and a number of nieces and nephews.
