Rose Marie Murray

Rose Marie Murray, age 98, of Grand Bay, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 4, 1926, in Springhill, Alabama, to Joseph Wesley and Susan Martha (Dorlon) Reed. She is survived by her children: Betty Jane (Chuck) Pierce, Elwood (Mona) Murray, Linda Dickens, Rose Mary (Charles) Clark, and Patrick (Becky) Murray. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Greg (Christy) Pierce, Kevin (Andree) Pierce, Mollee (Mike) Stringfellow, Christopher (Angela) Murray, David (Courtney) Murray, Anthony (Kayla) Murray, Kenneth (Carmen) Murray, Charley (Marlo) Dickens, Jimbo (Laura) Dickens, Linda (Ronnie) Owens, Ben Dickens, Charlie (Tuttie) Clark, Monica (Chris) Taylor, Sherry (Kenny) Hart, Christina (Joey) Dickson, Erica (Jay) Laura, Bayleigh (Justin) Malone, and Destry (Kaylyn) Murray, along with 43 great-grandchildren, 30 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, P.H. Murray, her grandsons Sean Dickens and Keith Anthony Murray, her son-in-law Charles Dickens, and her five sisters and four brothers. For over 70 years, Rose Marie was a devoted parishioner of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where she served faithfully on the Parish Council, the Ladies' Sodality, and as a longtime leader of the Burse Club. She was awarded the Christ the King Medal from the Mobile Archdiocese recognizing her outstanding acts of service to her parish. Her unwavering faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she cherished the strong sense of community she found within the church. At the age of 56, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of attending college, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Alabama at the age of 60. A proud Auburn fan, she also enjoyed visiting casinos and, most of all, spending time with her family. She was her grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader, attending as many of their events as possible, and she took immense pride in being "Maa-Maw," always eager to share their accomplishments with anyone who would listen. She lived a long, fulfilling life, leaving behind countless cherished memories for those who loved her most. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Amber Seward, Greg, Larry Shields, Kaye, Linda Marie, and Monica for their love and devotion. A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Grand Bay, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Grand Bay Cemetery.
