Mr. Roger Ferguson “Butch” Falin November 9, 1940 – April 20, 2023 Obituary Mr. Roger F. Falin passed away on April 20, 2023 at the age of 82. Mr. Falin passed peacefully at home from a recent illness, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born in Bowling Green, KY on November 9, 1940, to the late Loranzer G. Falin and Lillian Mae Ferguson. He is survived by three sons, Daryl (Chrystal) Falin, Timothy (Renee) Falin and Michael (Donna) Falin; four grandchildren, Jessica F. (Jacob) Coleman, Joshua R. Falin, Ashley F. (Zach) Booth and Sarah K. Falin; five great grandchildren, Braiden, Luke and Harlie Kate Coleman, Emersyn and Nolan Booth; two stepbrothers, Jim Falin and Howard Whittle; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda D. Falin, his stepfather Riley Whittle, his stepmother Cathy Falin, and his stepsister Jeannie Falin. After marrying his high school sweetheart in Austin, KY on Christmas day of 1960, Roger enlisted in the United States Army. After completing his basic training, he soon received orders to be stationed at Ft. Riley, KS., so he and Linda were on their way. A short time after arriving at Ft. Riley, he and Linda were blessed with their first child, a son, Daryl, on December 9, 1961. After Daryl’s birth, Roger was sent overseas and stationed at the U.S. Army base near Seoul, S. Korea, where he remained for eighteen months. At the end of his enlistment, he returned to Ft. Riley, KS. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army on June 26, 1963, but remained in the U.S. Army Reserve for three more years, being fully discharged on August 31, 1966. After his military service ended and now having a young family to provide for, Roger set about deciding what he could do to earn a living. After talking with a cousin who offered to help him secure regular employment, Roger moved his wife and young son to Mobile, AL. There he took a job as a dock freight mover and loader for a highway transport company called Georgia Highway Express. While employed there, he began training to become a freight truck driver. Once he completed this training, he received an increase in pay and became a full-time truck driver. As time passed, Butch and Linda continued to build their family and were blessed with two more sons, Timothy on June 15, 1965, and Michael on May 7, 1971. Roger remained employed with that same company until his retirement in 2008. Roger was a dedicated husband, father and family provider, but those words don’t begin to describe the man we all knew and loved. He was the ultimate role model for three young sons on what it meant to become a man. He was a firm disciplinarian, but also a gentle and loving person who gave freely of his time, wisdom and experience. He was a family builder and its ultimate protector and defender. The most important task we can ever be entrusted with is the responsibility of raising young children into decent, compassionate, honorable and productive members of our society and Roger was determined to fulfill this obligation. I’m sure I can speak for my brothers and others when I say that we were truly blessed to have him as our father and grandfather and that, if not for his influence and his teachings, we would not be the people that we are today. From being able to manage my money, to providing for my family and raising my own children to repairing my car and keeping my household running, his example and influence were a constant presence in my own life and those of my siblings. Though it is painful to let go and he will be forever missed by all of us, his impact on all of our lives will never be forgotten. We will carry on his legacy in our own lives and do our best to make him proud.
