Nadine A. Moseley

Nadine Moseley was born to Houston and Elnora Allen in Stockton, AL, on September 15, 1932, and died peacefully on June 30, 2019, surrounded by her daughters as she was serenaded with her favorite songs. She was preceded in death by Harold Moseley, her husband of 57 years; grandson, Christopher Cubley; great-grandchildren, Sarah and Christopher Cubley, Jr. and brothers Edward and Eugene Allen. She is survived by her four daughters and sons-in-law: Sherry and Jack Moiren, Ellie and Ray Doster, Beverly Cubley, and Debra and Corey Henning; grandsons: Brandon and Brett Doster, Joshua and Joseph Moiren; granddaughter: Misty Henning-Steele; great grandchildren, Zoe and Zachary Cubley and brothers, Carsten and Ronald Allen. She also loved and appreciated Janie Henderson and Nolan Franz as her honorary children. Nadine married Harold on May 31, 1950, and they owned and operated Moseley’s Nursery and Supply. She was a wonderfully patient, kind, loving and industrious wife and mother. Her four daughters describe her as the best mother a person could have. Each of her daughters claimed to be her favorite. She was an extraordinary businesswoman, artist, designer, cook, seamstress, writer, teacher, gardener, and more. Even when money was tight, she knew how to make something amazing from practically nothing. Somehow, she always had a hundred dollar bill hidden in her “secret compartment” for emergencies. Even more than what she did, however, was the way she did it—always with love, dignity, optimism, a sense of humor, and outstanding endurance. When faced with overwhelming challenges, she did not give up. One such challenge was an accident that occurred when her minivan collided with a cow on the night of February 10, 2000. Despite a catastrophic brain injury that physicians determined would leave her, at best, in a persistent vegetative state, she diligently worked to regain speech, mobility, cognitive functions, and motor skills. Throughout her tedious, painful rehabilitation and the following 19 years of coping with the life-changing effects of her injuries, she absolutely never complained. Minutes before she died, she told her daughters she was fine. Nadine was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses November 25, 1967 and attended the Irvington Kingdom Hall. She loved talking to others about Jehovah and her future hope of life on a paradise earth. She liked to imagine the house she would build in the New World and even designed a few versions on graph paper. She was active in her ministry and especially enjoyed studying the Bible with others. Over the years she rejoiced when many of her students dedicated their lives to Jehovah. Even after her accident, she continued to share Jehovah’s kingdom hope with others until the very end. Despite her limitations, she asked to be her daughter’s assistant for a talk on the Ministry School in February 2011 and served as an auxiliary pioneer in April 2011. Although she was blind and had a traumatic brain injury, she had always been an avid Bible reader and could recite from memory many Bible verses. When a hospice chaplain asked her, “Who is here with you?” he expected to hear her name her daughters. Instead she responded, “Jehovah.” Even in the last month of her life when her voice was very weak, she smiled as her hospice nurse joined her daughters at her bedside to sing songs of praise to Jehovah. Nadine trusted in Jehovah and the resurrection hope promised at John 5:28, 29 and maintained her joy until she went to sleep in death. In her last moments, her daughters reminded her of the words at Isaiah 41:10: “Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be anxious, for I am your God. I will fortify you, yes, I will help you. I will really hold on to you with my right hand of righteousness.” They sang her favorite song, “He Will Make You Strong.” As she sleeps peacefully in Jehovah’s memory, may her loved ones remember Jehovah is holding our hands, too, and He will make us strong. What a joy it will be to tell her when she awakens that we followed her outstanding example of faithful endurance! Shortly after the accident that physicians said would render her unable to even recognize her family, Nadine wrote a beautiful note to her daughters, a love note to cherish forever: “Thank you for the breakfast this morning. It was delicious. Thank you also for being here. I enjoy that very much. Thanks for all you have done. Thank you for being my daughter. Thanks again. Mama” Thanks for all the love and kindness shown to this beautiful lady not only in the last years of her illness, but throughout her life. Most of all, thanks to Jehovah for the privilege of having the most amazing mother ever.
