Mike Newman passed away Thursday, September 30, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Mike was born October 17, 1939 to Hugh and Mildred Newman in Rankin, Illinois. Mike is survived by his children, Sheila (Ralph) Bosarge, Marti (Glen) Chaplin, Johnny (Amy) Newman, and Kaci Newman; grandchildren, Annie (Ed) Hathaway, Nicole (Bucky) Johnson, James (Deborah) Wilkerson, Kayla Wilkerson, Kelsey Bosarge, Joshua Skinner, Chase Chaplin, Jordan Skinner, Shylah Newman, Johnny Newman, Jr., Tony Rice, Jr., Kaylee Woodruff, and Edward Woodruff; great-grandchildren, Tori Wilkerson Schjott, E.J. Hathaway, Chloe Hathaway, Austin Hathaway, Trace Cain, Logan Cain, and Addison Wilkerson; siblings, Nancy (Gene) Brenner, Clem (Duane) Carder, Larry (Debra) Newman, Patty (Tom) Johnson, Jack (Mary) Newman, Connie (Preston) Mallon, Steve Newman, Sarah (Jack) Miller, Mark (Julie) Newman, Bill Newman, Cindy (Steve) Collins, Joan (John) Lonero, and Nick (Kathy) Newman; many nieces and nephews; other relatives, and friends. Mike was preceeded in death by his parents, Hugh and Mildred Newman; sister, Penny Newman; son, Wayne Newman; daughter, Mary Wilkerson; and granddaughter, Katie Wilkerson. Mike was the oldest of 15 Children. He loved going fishing with his children and grandchildren. He always kept his family foremost in his life. After Mike graduated from Rankin Township High School he moved south and started work at building golf courses. Being a farm boy, working with heavy equipment seemed natural to Mike, and he was one of the best around. Through the years Mike became known for his wonderful ability to make a trackhoe smoothly do his bidding. He worked for Greg Landry Construction for over 40 years. He cleared many sites on Dauphin Island where so many houses stand today. With a strong work ethic, an easy smile, and devotion to family and friends, Mike was beloved by all who knew him. His pall bearers will be his grandsons and nephew, Joshua Skinner, Trace Cain, Ed Hathaway, James Wilkerson, Johnny Newman, Jr., Logan Cain, Tony Rice, Jr.; and Brady Mallon. Visitation will be Friday, October 8, 2021, from 5-7 PM at Serenity Funeral Home-8691 Old Pascagoula Rd. Mobile, AL. Mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday, October 9 at 12:00pm at St. Margaret Catholic Church, 13790 South Wintzell Avenue in Bayou La Batre with burial rights accorded at Cemetery #2 on Dauphin Island right after mass.
