Matison "Sonny" Lundy Jr.

Matison “Sonny “ Lundy, 82, was born December 31, 1940 to Matison and Ethel Lundy in Mobile, Alabama. He went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings (Aaron Lundy and Nettie Mae Ellenwood), children (Kenneth Ray Lundy and Jack Turner). He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth Lundy. They resided in Mobile, Alabama. His surviving children are Kim Price, Kathy Phillips, Keith Lundy, David Turner, and Gwen McLeod. He is also survived by his siblings (Elouise Abercrombie, Barbara Buckhalter, Ouida DuPont, Danny Lundy and Shirley Patrick). He had 21 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Over the years he has also been known as “Paw Paw” to the children that he and his wife cared for. To anyone who ever had a conversation with Sonny, his love for Jesus was apparent. He always had a bible near by and could quote scripture for any issue life could throw your way. He was a long time member of Grand Bay Church of God. One of his favorite pastimes was going to the racetrack on Friday nights. This is actually where he met his wife, 53 years ago. Over the years, Sonny worked in construction and he was a truck driver. He made many lifelong friends throughout his career. Many of whom were led to know Jesus Christ through him. Sonny’s favorite scripture was Psalms 23. 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. A Celebration of Life memorial will be held at the Grand Bay Church of God at 11:00 am on July 15. Following this, a graveside service will take place at 1:00 pm, at Serenity Funeral Home.
