Lisa Denise Large

Lisa Denise Edwards Large, 61, passed away peacefully at Ascension Providence Hospital in Mobile, Alabama on September 7, 2022 after following a difficult battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome. Lisa was born on July 24, 1961 in Mobile, Alabama. As a bright young elementary student, everyone knew Lisa valued education. Lisa graduated in the top of her class from Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama. In 1983, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Alabama in Business Management. Throughout her undergraduate years, Lisa was an active member in Phi Chi Theta. After graduation, Lisa moved with her family to Frankfurt, Germany where she worked as a civil servant for the United States Army. Upon her return to the states, Lisa earned a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education and an Administrative Leadership Certification from the University of South Alabama for Lisa’s lifelong dream of teaching began at Woodcock Elementary School in Mobile, Alabama. She continued that dream at Baker Elementary and Collier Elementary for years where she touched the lives of many children that she loved as her own. She had the opportunity to work in many capacities throughout her career. Anyone that knew Lisa knows that she was normally the last one to leave the school building each day. Lisa was selected as Teacher of the Year multiple times and was even named the Coolest Elementary Teacher in Mobile by the Nappies in 2017. Lisa retired after 27 years in education from Collier Elementary School in 2019. Lisa loved the Mobile Community. She was a member at Spring Hill Baptist Church. In addition, Lisa was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Educators Sorority. As a mother Lisa devoted everything to raising her two daughters. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to five grandchildren. She volunteered at their schools, attended all sporting events, and was there for every memorable moment. Lisa is survived by her daughters, Victoria Large Kringel (Jon) and Sara King (Nicholas); five grandchildren, William Large Kringel, Caroline King, Anna King, Luke Kringel, and Wells Kringel; one sister, Judy Loper (Don); two brothers, Michael Edwards (Sharon) and Ken Edwards (Cindy); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loved ones. Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lois Edwards. Celebration of life event will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2022, from 3:00-6:00 PM at the Serenity Event Center in Theodore, Alabama. There will be a ceremony beginning at 3:00 with a reception following thereafter. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society in memory of Lisa Large.
