LaVaughn Douglas Sheppard

L. Douglas Sheppard, age 84, of Wedowee, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, due to heart failure. He was born on August 28, 1939, and raised by his special Mama Dot Sheppard. He was a man of strong Christian faith who loved the Lord. He read the Bible countless times and had many favorite Christian artists. He lived his life knowing if Jesus was accepted in your heart, we all had a peaceful place and would be together. He taught his family this and led by example. Doug was a Navy Veteran, who absolutely loved the Navy and loved his country. He married the love of his life, Dianna Joy at the age of 19 (she was 15) on February 7, 1959. They were married for 65 years with 3 beautiful daughters. They lived in Alabama, Arizona, California and Utah. Doug, known to all as Papa, loved God, fishing, making his yard beautiful with his findings, collecting, taking care of his love and was so proud of his family. He loved being outdoors, nature and animals, he was so kind & caring. He naturally drew people to him, his laugh was the best and so contagious. We have so many wonderful memories that we will treasure forever. He had a special little love, Maggie May, his Yorkie. He thought she was the best thing and spoiled her. He loved playing and cuddling with her so much. Maggie will now keep Grandma very busy. We are never ready to say goodbye to those we love the most, however we understand he was ready for the Angels to take him home. He was preceded in death by Al Martin, who was like a dad. His sister’s; Nadine Holtzman and Shirley Alexander. He is survived by his wife, Diane. Daughters; Cindy (Rick), Janet (Shane), Sheila (Steve) and Carol who he thought of as a daughter. Grandchildren; Shawna (Colin), Shane (Jenni), Jeremy (Crystal), Michael, Josh (Dani), Samantha (Parker), Lyle (Dorothy), Shawn (Patricia), Jill (Paul), Todd (Terra). Great grandchildren; Grayson (Sarah), Collin, Avery, Aspen, Tatum, Katie, Stella, Zane, Ava, Abby, Ty, Ashlyn, Ethan, Knox, Lucianna and Joey. Mama Dot, Sisters; Debbie (Gaylon), Barbara (Wendell), and Darlene as well as many other family and friends. A special thanks to his wife and greatest love, Diane for being his caregiver the last several years. A Celebration of Life will be held in Utah at Dr. O. Roi Hardy Park on June 8, 2024, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to @Shawna-McCarthy-3
