Kathleen Patricia Zimmer

Kathleen Patricia Zimmer, affectionately known in the community as "Momma Kat," passed away peacefully at her home in Mobile, AL on March 31, 2025 surrounded by the love of her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and community service. Born on November 26, 1944, in Lowville, New York, Kathleen graduated from Little Falls High School in New York and attended the Utica School of Automation, specializing in IBM computer programming. Kathleen's career spanned various industries, including her employment at General Electric in Utica, New York, operating the Maples Diner in Sangerfield, New York, and serving as a Terminal Manager at Montgomery Tank Lines in the Atlanta area for 17 years. She also worked as a Marketing Representative for M&M Mars Candy and was a Property Manager/Inspector for Sand Properties, Inc. in Mobile, Alabama, until her retirement in 2013. Kathleen was deeply committed to her motorcycle community. After being severely injured on her bike she dreamed of starting a not for profit organization to aid downed riders. She fulfilled that dream in 2010 when she proudly founded "Riders 4 Riders" in Mobile, Alabama which now has well over 20k members. She was also a proud member of the Wallace - New American Legion Post #76, the Patriot Guard of Mobile, AL, The Legion Riders, and a lifetime member of Dixie ABATE of Alabama. Kathleen was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Mekkelson Wright; her Pops, Theodore G. Wright; and her sister, Sue Ellen Zimmer. She is survived by her beloved children, Scott Zimmer, Michelle Hand (Chris) & Kim Boruty (Karl) Her grandchildren of whom she was so very proud of, Joe Newsome, Kayla Willis (Ryan), Rian Melchiorre (Joseph), Kendle Boruty (Keralah), Justin Zimmer, Seth Zimmer, Kristi Wilson (Jeremiah) Along with cherished great - grandchildren, Ella England, Jax Laughlin, Henry Wilson, Kairos Boruty, Benjamin Williams, Travis Hesterlee (Ariel), Alayna Hesterlee (Eric), Kash Owen And amazing great-great grands, Hero Hesterlee, Kyren & Karter Holloway Her sister, Mary Adcox (John) and brother Joe LaPlante. The family would like to acknowledge Momma Kat's wonderful extended family, Christine Conover, Linda and Ben Butler, Michael Stieber, Susie and David Barnes, Sarah and Dan Eshete, Tracy Bonner, Shannon Frodge, Stump and Michelle Ross. We will hold a Celebration of Life with a ride to follow. To be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the American Legion Post #76, Disabled and Homeless Vets, a local veteran's organization, or a local charity of choice.
