Joicy Fay Dees

Joicy Fay Livingston Dees entered into eternal rest peacefully on October 27, 2021. Joicy was born in Union, Mississippi to Lily Cole Livingston and James Livingston in 1925, one of eight children. Joicy worked at Brookly Field in Mobile, Alabama where she met Max Dees on a blind date. After a brief courtship, they fell in love and married in 1949. Joicy and Max had four children: Max, Linda, Don and Paul. Joicy enjoyed cooking, sewing, and gardening. Joicy always had canned vegetables on the shelves in her kitchen and homemade preserves in her refrigerator. Her children and grandchildren always enjoyed her homemade biscuits with the fresh preserves. Joicy was quite the seamstress. She enjoyed making clothing for her children and grandchildren. Her sewing table doubled as the “kids’ table” for family gatherings. Joicy was also an avid gamer – card & board gaming. She enjoyed a good card game and would often win at Scrabble. On top of being a homemaker, Joicy found the time to take a job as a manager of Stuckey’s Pecan Shop in Grand Bay. Being a people person, Joicy enjoyed her job working with and training others. Joicy was always a friendly face to regulars as well as travelers stopping for a break. Joicy and Max had 7 grandchildren: Jason, David, Julia, Jennifer, Becky, Richard and Tony. Family gatherings were a fun time with all 4 families in the house at the same time. The children could be found at the kitchen table with the grandchildren running around the yard. Joicy had nine great-grandchildren: Lily, Ashley, Annie, Max, Cooper, Sam, Lozano, Hunter and Ryan. Joicy was preceded in death by her husband, Max; and siblings, James Livingston, Calvin Livingston, Kenneth Livingston, Mary Francis, Prudie Fulton, and Suzie Lambert. Joicy is survived by her daughter, Linda Pienta; sons, Max (Nancy), Don (Cindy), and Paul (Lucy); grandchildren, Jason Dees (Kate), David Pienta (Rachel), Julia Marshall (John), Jennifer Tucker (Josh), Becky Hall (Donell), Richard Dees (Anna), and Tony Dees (Shay); great-grandchildren, Lily Tucker, Ashley Tucker, Annie Marshall, Max Marshall, Cooper Dees, Sam Marshall, Lozano Hall, Hunter Dees and Ryan Tucker; sister, Hazel; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 from 11 AM-12 PM at Serenity Funeral Home, followed by service at 12 PM. Interment will be held in Grand Bay Cemetery.
