John Anthony Whitcomb

John Anthony Whitcomb, born on February 29, 1940 in Mobile, Alabama went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 26, 2025. He was the son of the late John Oscar Whitcomb and Vivian (Gartman) Whitcomb. John is survived and missed by his wife Juanita (Bradley) Whitcomb of 63 years and his children Teresa Kay Shawn (Richard Shawn) of Mobile, and Jennifer Michelle Tune (Michael Tune) of Daphne. He was preceded in death by his daughter Patsy Ann Whitcomb, his sisters Yvonne Walker and Vesta Gethers. He is survived by his sisters Brenda Haskew and Lois Flowers. He is also survived by a very special brother-in-law, Harles Bradley, he was like the brother that John never had, and they loved spending time together. He will be remembered by his 8 grandchildren Danielle (Gideon) Hudson, Lacey (Gideon) Roberts, Bradley Tune, Cory Tune, Kathleen (Tune) Tuttle, Annelise Tune, John Tune, Robert Tune and his 5 great-grandchildren Scarlett Hudson, Salem Hudson, Gideon Roberts, Jillian Roberts and Stella Roberts. He was a devoted family man and provider for his family. He graduated from Fairhope High School in 1958 and cherished his time growing up on the bay in Fairhope – living on the pier and enjoying every Jubilee that he could. He learned to fish as a young man and cultivated a love of bass fishing throughout his life, particularly when visiting his family at Snow Lake Shores, Miss. during his retirement years. What many will remember most about John was his love of singing and dancing, both of which he enjoyed for many years. He also loved to spend time with his grandchildren – teasing them, calling them funny names, singing silly songs and playing board games together. He attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute, and he followed the Auburn football program and loved attending games on campus for many years. He proudly worked at Scott Paper Company in Mobile from 1964 to 2000 as a maintenance mechanic. But he was an entrepreneur at heart – he opened a furniture store, started an outdoor furniture business, and started The Inkwell in his retirement. He enjoyed morning coffee and reading the Mobile Press Register – from cover to cover – every day! A man of deep faith since his youth, he attended Magnolia Springs Baptist, Dauphin Way Baptist and Springhill Baptist. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Samaritan’s Purse. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Serenity Memorial Gardens, 8951 Old Pascagoula Rd. Theodore, AL. *All Family and Friends are requested to meet at Serenity Funeral Home, 8691 Old Pacagoula Road, Theodore, AL 36582, by 1:45pm to go in procession to the cemetery.*
