John William McCreadie

John William McCreadie was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on October 3, 1956, to Teresa Frances (McIntaggart) McCreadie and John Hendry Rutherford McCreadie. He passed away in the ICU at Sacred Heart Hospital, after a valiant battle, from complications of a serious fall while on a roadtrip home to our beloved Canada. He tried so hard to make it home in spite of his injuries, and nearly made it before he could go no further on August 5th. After slow recovery, over the next 2 weeks, he suddenly took a turn for the worse and passed peacefully with his family surrounding him on the morning of August 21, 2024. The last words he heard us all speak were how very much he is loved. Left on this earth to cherish his memories are his wife of 42 years, Edith Gubler McCreadie, MD, daughter, Alana Frances Gubler McCreadie and fiancé, Alexx Weekley, son, Kane Alexander Gubler McCreadie and girlfriend, Sophie Griffies, sister, Helen McCreadie, and her son, John McCreadie, cousin, George (Kathleen Cranley) Bluett, his son, Riley Bluett and family, sister- and brother-in-law, Doris (Gubler) Martin and Rev. David Martin, nephews, Eric (Jia) Martin and Kevin (Kim) Martin and families, and niece, Christina (Kyle) Thomson and family. Predeceased by his oldest daughter, Katie Clara Gubler McCreadie on August 7, 2018, parents, John and Frances McCreadie, grandparents, Michael and Jenny (Coggins) McIntaggart, William and Helen (Johnson) McCreadie, and father- and mother-in-law, Ludwig and Clara (Stobbe) Gubler. He had many interests in life but knew from a young age that the world was really all about insects, and never wavered from that. He was a highly respected entomologist and internationally known scientist and was dedicated to his research and his many students, with humor – and who knows how many tall tales – peppering his classes, labs, and conference talks! He loved history, Bach, Telemann, rock & roll of all descriptions and fried New England clams. But above all else, he loved his family and was adored by his 3 children and numerous precious fur-babies. One of the last conversations that he had on his difficult journey home was that he missed his girls, his 2 puppies! He loved going on road trips, and we would lose sight of him at times, only to find he had wandered off to check a stream for insects! He was a man of many talents and interests, but the role that was most important to him was that of Dad, which he cherished above all else. He will be truly missed by all who knew him, especially his family. Services will begin with a visitation on Saturday, August 31, 2024, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Serenity Funeral Home in Theodore, AL. A chapel service will be held at Serenity Funeral Home on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at 2:00 pm with visitation prior to the service from 12:00 noon until service time.
