In Loving Memory of John Joseph Diamond June 18, 1951 – December 21, 2025 John Joseph Diamond, a man of soaring spirit and unwavering integrity, took his final flight on December 21, 2025. Born in Philadelphia on June 18, 1951, John’s journey took him from the halls of Bishop Neumann High School (Class of 1969) and Temple University—where he earned a Master’s in Sociology—to the cockpit of some of the world’s most vital aircraft. A distinguished veteran, John served 13 years in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Major. As a 67J00 Aeromedical Evacuation Officer, he flew life-saving missions with the 82nd Med Det-1st Infantry Division and "Flatiron" at Fort Rucker. His skill as a Senior Army Aviator and UH-1 Instructor Pilot earned him the Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. After his military service, John spent 21 years as a Captain for Petroleum Helicopters Inc. (PHI), continuing a lifelong legacy of precision and excellence in aviation. To know John was to know a man of character—honest, loyal, and always ready with a story. While he mastered the complexities of the Command and General Staff College and advanced aeronautics, he famously never could master the word "no" when it came to his wife, Doris. When his feet were on the ground, John’s hands were always busy. He was a gifted woodworker, an expert marksman, and a lover of the outdoors who found joy in kayaking, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. He stayed young at heart by flying drones and delighted many by performing magic, always seeking to entertain and bring a smile to those around him. His greatest legacy remains his family. John is survived by his beloved wife, Doris B. Diamond; his children, Jon (Mary) Diamond, Sarah Diamond, and Dana (James) Strickland; and his five cherished grandchildren: Poppy, Sebastian, Bailey, Annah, and Skylar. He is also remembered by his siblings: Jim (Ann), Jeana (Ed), Susan, Teresa, and MSGR David Diamond. His memory lives on through 23 nieces and nephews and 32 great-nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their profound thanks to his sisters-in-law, Tonya and Lynn, and his niece, Jessica, for the selfless care they provided him at the end of his journey. John joins his parents, Rudy and Marie Diamond, who preceded him in death. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. To honor John’s commitment to his fellow service members, the family suggests donations be made to Luke’s Wings.
