John Alan Booth

John Alan Booth (61) passed away suddenly as a result of a motorcycle accident on June 20th, 2023. Born October 23rd, 1961, in Heidelberg, Germany to Carol and Edward Russell Booth, Sr., he resided in Grand Bay, AL for his last 28 years. John lived his rambunctious young life in Gainesville, GA with his four siblings, Edward Jr, Timothy (Tim), Julie, and William (Bill), along with many friends nearby. Family vacations at Lake Lanier in Gainesville, GA led to his love of the water. At the age of 17, John joined the US Navy as a Hull Technician (HTSN). While serving on board the USS Antrim (FFG-20) and USS Inchon (MCS-12), he obtained multiple schools and certifications in welding, and was awarded ribbons and medals including the Navy Achievement Medal gold star in lieu of fourth award. After serving his country for 20 years, John retired as an HT1. After retirement, John continued his career in HVAC installations and repairs. A proud and devoted father to his son, John Edward Booth of Covington, LA, he considered his son his greatest accomplishment. John was promoted to the title of grandfather and was lovingly known as “Papa John” to his grandson, Edward James Booth, loving him greater than he ever imagined possible. An avid Harley-Davidson biker and fisherman, John’s gruff appearance and rascally sense of humor made him a favorite among family and friends. He was full to the brim with amazing stories, and knowledge gained through all of his life experiences. John was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he was also generous and had an enormous heart of gold. With unwavering purpose, John grew and donated his hair to Locks of Love, a nonprofit charity that provides custom-made hair prosthetics to disadvantaged children suffering from hair loss as a result of medical conditions. John leaves behind a hole in the heart of everyone who knew him—a hole that feels impossible to fill. He is survived by his mother, Carol (Conine), his son, John Edward (Erica Boughton), his grandson Edward James, siblings, Edward, Tim (Lisa Koko), Julie and Bill, nieces and nephews, and his dearest friend, Jenny Albrecht. A celebration of John’s life will be held at: Grand Bay Community Center 11610 US HWY 90 Grand Bay, AL on July 15th, from 11:00am-2:00pm.
