Harold Henry Pouyadou

Harold Henry Pouyadou passed away peacefully at home in south Mobile, AL during the late evening of March 29, 2021 at the age of 100 years. His final days were spent with a small gathering of close family members to comfort and embrace the rich and expansive history of this remarkable personality. Born in Pass Christian, MS to Edward and Annie Elizabeth Manzey Pouyadou, Harold moved with his siblings, Joan, Edwina, Merle, and Anthony to Mobile during the Great Depression and remained there as a lifelong resident for over 90 years. Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Henrietta Pritchard Pouyadou; his eldest son, Harry Pouyadou; and his son-in-law, Michael Pardue. Harold is survived by his three remaining children, Roger Glen Pouyadou, Lebecca Jean Pardue, and Michael Allen Pouyadou; grandchildren, Sherri Daquipa, Cynthia Pouyadou, Gregory Pouyadou, Alex Pouyadou, and Jenny Pouyadou; and great-grandchildren, Gabriella Pouyadou, Maxwell Pouyadou, Jaxson Pouyadou, Harper Daquipa, and Merrick Daquipa. Harold was a U.S. Navy veteran, with 20 years of service, specializing in aviation mechanics and metallurgy. He achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer with wartime service commendations and decorations. His naval career allowed Harold and family to travel worldwide. A most memorable assignment was 4 years in Naples Italy where the family lived in the community of Bella Vista on Naples Bay, learned the language, engaged in Italian customs, and traveled to the Tuscany region, Germany, France, and the high peaks and mountainous region of Switzerland. At the time of his death, Harold was further distinguished as Alabama’s last remaining Pearl Harbor Survivor of the Japanese attack at Ford Island, December 7, 1941, that thrust the United States into World War II against the Axis Powers in Europe and Japan. After his naval career he formed Edgewood Construction Co. of Mobile and later became Operations Manager for Standard Dredging Corp. and MARCONA Ocean Industries, traveling worldwide on major marine construction projects. Harold was a self-educated, driven craftsman with skills in the field of architecture, engineering, metallurgy, marine/residential construction, and was credited with several unique mechanical and structural product designs for major corporations. His ingenuity was self-evident, and he often boosted that in his entire 48-year career he never once took a single sick day. He was a Shriner and 32nd degree Scottish Rite Freemason. In later years Harold managed residential rental properties and enjoyed quiet time gardening, home repairs, and carpentry; crafting gadgets and useful products for kids and family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services to be held Friday, April 2, 2021 at Serenity Funeral Home, 8691 Old Pascagoula Road, Theodore AL 36582. Visitation from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel, funeral service 11:00 – noon, immediately followed by interment.
