Glen "Pa" Craig Bryant

Glen Bryant, age 69, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2022 in Mobile, Alabama. He was born August 8, 1953 in Mobile and was a lifelong resident of Bayou La Batre, Alabama. He was a 1971 graduate of Peter F. Alba High School. Often in life you meet unique individuals that leave an everlasting impression on you and Glen was absolutely from that mold. He had an unique laugh and an uncanny way to make anyone feel at ease, as if he had known you forever or as if you were part of his family. He was an approachable man who could carry on a conversation with anyone, from any background, any educational status, and any prosperity level. His trademark head tilt before a conversation was the marker to know you were about to embark on an epic story time or receive golden guidance advice for your life. He had an uncanny way of asking you questions which, in turn, ended with you understanding his views without him verbally expressing them. Snippets of online condolences, such as these below, sent to the family summarized how so many felt towards Glen. A friend was quoted as saying, "The world was a better place when it listened to Glen." A beloved employee said, "I will be sad knowing there will never be another in-depth, useless conversation with Glen again." Many people associated with Glen in the seafood industry expressed, "Glen was a big part of their commercial seafood career as a mentor or advisor." One person sending condolences to the family stated, "I've never met Glen, but his name has been known to me for over 35 years." Glen started his lifelong career in the seafood industry, working as a young man for his father at Bryant Seafood until 1976. He then owned and operated his first trawler Merchant Vessel (M/V) "Pioneer One." In 1983, he purchased the M/V "Heidi" and held that vessel in operation until1987, when he opened Bryant Products with his wife, Catherine and sister, Jan. Glen was a leader in the blue crab industry with the company being know worldwide. Bryant Products evolved into international fish sales and also at a time processed oysters. Additionally, Glen was instrumental in legislature that ensured continued operations of gill-netting for fishermen along the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and throughout Alabama. Glen loved to travel and made certain that his family experienced new sights, adventures, and culture. He ensured they traveled as a family at least once per year. Glen was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert R.L. and Ruth Marie Bryant; brother, Daryl Bryant; and son, Weston Glen Bryant. Glen is survived by his wife, Catherine "Beth" Bryant; daughters, Katie Bryant Burt (Edgar) and Melissa Kay Bryant; sons, Andrew Martin Bryant (Phillip) and Robert Lee Bryant (Ashley); grandson, Gavin Bryant Seymour; granddaughters, Sarah Johnson (fiance Matthew), Haleigh Seymour, Mary Catherine Bryant, and Emily Grace Bryant; god-daughter and niece, Brandi Herrington Piedra (Audel); a surrogate grandfather to his great-neice, Murphy Herrington Zirlott; great-nephew, Brodie Stillwell Cain and Halle Hutcher; sisters, Jan Isham and Donna Ladnier; special family member, Allison Martin; along with many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Active pallbearers are Edgar Burt, Audel Piedra, Matthew Hutcher, Phillip Ward, Leo Ladnier, and Nicholas Ladnier. Honorary pallbearers are Harrison Ladnier, Lowell Howard, and Mike Greico. Services will be held at Serenity Funeral Home on Friday, September 16, 2022. Visitation to start at 12 PM, followed by memorial service at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Cancer Society in memory of Glen Craig Bryant.
