George D. “Donn” Allen, 78 George Donald “Donn” Allen, 78, of Mobile, died Thursday, April 26th, 2018. He was born February 14, 1940 in Canton, Mississippi, to W.O. and Bessie Allen. He married Patricia Ann “Pat” Walters on August 31, 1957, she preceded him in 2002. Surviving are his children: Dana (Lynn) Armstrong of Mobile, Rev. Scott [Debra] Allen of Uriah, and Tricia [Cal Walters] Allen of Gulfport. He is survived by six grandchildren: Bryan [Amanda] Allen, Hannah [Colton] Stringfellow, Landon [Kathleen] Allen, Emilie Armstrong, Colton Allen, and Molly Armstrong, along with 4 great-grandchildren: Maggie, Edward, Makaylee, and Samuel. Mr. Allen leaves behind one brother, Roger [Barbara] Allen, as well as a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Donn was a long time resident of Mobile, where he grew up and returned to after retiring from the United States Air Force. He entered the United States Air Force [USAF] in 1957, marrying his sweetheart later that year. Donn would travel around the globe, including assignments in Taiwan, Delaware, Guam, England, Hawaii, Florida, Alaska, Nevada, and Mississippi, and expanding his family with three children. With a love of God and Country, the Allen family was always active with the local churches wherever they were stationed. Gathering friends along the way, the Allens would even meet long lost cousins around the globe. After officially retiring from the USAF in 1980, TSGT [Retired] Allen returned to Mobile, working for the Corps of Engineers and as an entrepreneurial cabinet designer. He would eventually answer the call into active ministry and further his already broad education at Mobile College and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. During his stints pursuing these last degrees, he would also begin pastoring at Goodway Baptist Church, Goodway, AL. After following yet another call, the now Reverend Allen would move his family to the Bethel Baptist Church congregation in Elsanor, AL. In 1989, Donn returned yet again to the Mobile area to pursue teaching at the high school level, in both the private and public sector. After enriching young minds in that special way of his, Mr. Allen moved onto a career in Real Estate with Century 21 [Bill Carpenter]. During this time, he was also on staff as an Associate Pastor with First Baptist Tillman’s Corner. In subsequent years, the retired Airman would hold the position of Manager of Base Security [contract] for Mobile ATC [USCG], which would be his final career. He retired in 2008 and enjoyed his family, Braves’ Games, Chinese Food, and riding his motorcycle [trips along the Natchez Trace were a favorite]. The visitation is from 11:00 AM until 12 o’clock noon on Saturday, May 5th at Serenity Funeral Home, with the service [with full military honors] at 12 o’clock noon.
