Frederick John Newman III

Frederick John Newman III was born in Mobile, Alabama on April 19th 1940 to the late Frederick “Jack” Newman Jr. and Virginia Stiles Newman. He passed away on October 13th 2020 at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years and mother of his children, Anne Hemphill Newman his brother Rick Newman, and sister, Bonnie Glass. He is survived by his spouse, Gail Kimbrell Newman; 7 children, Debbie Brady (John), Erick Newman (Pam), Ginger Kanan, Claude Newman (Wanda), Rob Newman (Liz), Mike Newman, Chris Newman (Whitney); step-son, Randall Kimbrell; step-daughters, Nicole Brock (Rob) and Renee Rice (John); 8 siblings, Jackie Smith, Tommy Newman, Nancy Turk, Kathy Tanner, Danny Newman, Donnie Newman, Ronnie Newman, Kenny Newman; 17 grandchildren; Drew, Rachael, Erika, Jack, Tarriq, Summer, Sarrah, C.J., Jack, Ashlie, Ashley, Bella, Josie, Ethan, Kailyn, Grayson and Hayes; 4 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends. Frederick was affectionately known as Freddie, Fred, Dad and Grandpa to those who knew and loved him. Growing up in Mobile, Fred graduated from McGill in 1958. He then went on to graduate with his bachelors in Chemistry from Millsaps College in Jackson, Ms. Fred spent his life dedicated to his family and career. He was the oldest sibling of 11, and the father of 7 children. Fred was a natural leader, and instilled the values of hard work, loyalty, and fairness to his children, family, and employees. In addition to the legacy he leaves behind in his family, Fred was a proud and devoted member of the family business, Newman’s ambulance, which was started by his father in 1939. Even after his retirement, Freddie continued to make daily visits to the ambulance office where he will be greatly missed by the entire Newman’s Ambulance family. Fred was a second generation, active member of the Mystics of Time for just under six decades. Freddie loved Mardi Gras and gathered yearly at the Malaga Inn with his family to celebrate the holiday. He was a member of Woodridge Baptist church. Visitation will be held at Woodridge Baptist Church on Saturday, October 17, 2020 from 2 pm until 4 pm with funeral service immediately to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to Woodridge Baptist Church building fund or Church Food Pantry.
