Ellen Rebecca Thompson, also known as Becky, has returned to the Lord’s embrace on April 22, 2023, at the age of 80, in Grand Bay, AL. She was born on March 9, 1943, in Bayou La Batre, AL, a gift from God to her loving parents, Manton Downey and Gladys Downey. Becky's life was a living testament of her deep and unwavering faith in the Lord’s boundless love and mercy. Her unwavering dedication to living a life of humility, gratitude, and respect for all has been an inspiration to those who had the pleasure of knowing her. We mourn Becky's passing with deep sadness, and yet, we celebrate her life and her return to the Lord’s side. For she had lived a life that was dedicated to serving others and upholding God’s commandments, and her work on this Earth has been completed according to the Heavenly Will. Her passing will leave a profound hole in the hearts of those closest to her, but we seek comfort in knowing that she has returned to her rightful place at the Lord’s side. Let us all pray for her soul's eternal peace and for God to grant her family and friends to be strong, even as they grieve their loss. Becky is survived by her beloved husband William Thompson, her cherished children Richard Arnold, Keith Arnold, and Eman Elghannam. It's worth noting that her life was enriched by the presence of her grandchildren, LesLeigh Arnold, Charlotte Brantley, Sean Arnold, Lynn Trinidad, Kevin Arnold, Brandon Arnold, Adam Atchison, and Jason Atchison, as well as her stepchildren Belinda Horn, Tony Thompson, Paula Ross, and Angela Horn, and her step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving sisters Catherine Lannie, Sharon Smith, Charlotte Thompson, Rose Marie Pedersen, and Theresa Hill, and her brother-in-laws Russel Lannie, Melvin Mallet, Barry Thompson, and Bill Hill. Becky was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Arnold, her father Manton Downey, her mother Gladys Downey, her sisters Anna Claire Mallet and Colette Seaman, her brother-in-laws Joe Smith and Royal Seaman, and her children Michael Arnold and Lesley Henderson. In remembrance of Becky's life, the family will hold a private service to honor her memory. Her friends and family are invited to the service to celebrate her life and her return to the Lord’s loving embrace. May God grant her eternal rest, and let her good deeds and humble spirit inspire us all to live better, kinder, and more faithful lives.
