Edward Alex Barbour

Edward "Poppa Frog" Alex Barbour, age 94, went to be with the Lord on September 24, 2022, surrounded in love by his family. Ed was born on May 22, 1928 in Bayou La Batre, AL and was a resident of Irvington, AL. He was a proud member of San Souci Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Kathleen Priscilla Seaman Barbour; 2 devoted sons, Eddie Ray Babour, Sr. and Samuel "Sammy" O'Neal Barbour, Sr.; father, Ramie Barbour; mother, Vurba Ary Goodrum-Barbour; brothers, Milton Nathaniel "Pug" Barbour, James Arthur Barbour, Ray Junior Barbour, Roy Franklin Barbour, and George Thomas "Dumpy" Barbour; and sister, Sheryl Ann "Sissy" Clark. He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Tina Barbour-Taylor (Steven); daughter-in-law, Sandra Taylor-Barbour; 7 grandsons (Poppa and Granny's "Boys"), Samuel O'Neal "Bo" Barbour, Jr. (Sherry), Eddie Ray Barbour, Jr., Darvin Reed Barbour (Stephanie), Alex Matthew Barbour, Simeon Aaron Barbour (Carlie), Jed Ian Barbour (Charlotte), and Joshua Ryan Taylor; 10 great-grandchildren, Amber Rae Barbour Brockwell (Andrew), Monica Paige Barbour Camp (Nathan), J.W. O'Neal "Neal" Barbour (Nicole), Marley Savannah Barbour, Gavin Edward Barbour, Madelyn Marie "Madey" Barbour, Samuel Aaron Barbour, Lincoln O'Neal Barbour, Emmett Charles Barbour, and Ezekiel Carter Barbour; 3 great-great-grandchildren, Zoie Savannah Barbour, Wylder Ray Barbour, and Jace William Barbour; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Ed spent most of his life on the water. He grew up shrimping with his dad, and he loved being out on a boat fishing, shrimping, crabbing, or oystering. In later years, he started his own seafood business, spending his days working in the shop boiling and backing crabs and shucking oysters. After retirement, he would go oystering and fishing with his grandsons, showing them the tricks of the trade. He always said the "Bayou" was in his blood. Baseball season was his favorite time of the year. He could not wait to watch the Atlanta Braves and call Aunt Mae Mae when they came on television. He loved spending time with his family and friends, spending time with his dog, Bella, telling his stories, and taking a nip and chew of tobacco. He was larger-than-life persona - a hero- but most of all, he was a loving and caring son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed on earth but what a celebratory homecoming he had in heaven. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 30, 2022 from 11 AM-12 PM at Serenity Funeral Home, followed by service at 12 PM. Interment will be held in Oddfellows Cemetery in Bayou La Batre, AL. Pallbearers will be Bo Barbour, Eddie Barbour, Darvin Barbour, Alex Barbour, Simeon Barbour, Jed Barbour, and Joshua Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Steven Taylor, Neal Barbour, Gavin Barbour, Aaron Barbour, Andrew Brockwell, and Nathan Camp. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the American Cancer Society for Melanoma and Pancreatic Cancers.
