Dorothy Gene Heartfield Curry

Early Sunday morning, July 16th, 2023, in her home located in South Haven, MI; surrounded by friends and family, Mother Dorothy Gene Heartfield Curry, age 70 years, gained her heavenly wings as she transitioned from earth to glory! She fought a good fight! Mother Dorothy was born on April 25th, 1953, in Coffeeville, Alabama, to the late Henry Heartfield and Mattie Pearl Cox. Graduating from Coffeeville High School in 1971, Dorothy soon relocated to Chicago, IL, where she attended and completed 2 years of study at Malcolm X College pursuing a career in Nursing. In August of 1991 Dorothy met and married Roosevelt Curry and they resided in Joliet, IL, for a short time before making Pullman, MI their home in 1993. In Pullman, Mother Dorothy united with the Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, of Pullman, MI. In the meantime, Dorothy continued to pursue her career in spiritually as a faithful, courageous, prayer warrior and worshipper! The family left Pullman, MI, finally settling in South Haven, MI, where Dorothy united with the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church now also known as the Body of Christ Church. 70 years of Dorothy’s life was dedicated and filled with giving love to her family, service to God and to so many more in the healthcare field. She was especially proud of her 3 daughters and oh my, there was nothing greater than her grandchildren until she had great grandchildren! Dorothy’s service as an Usher in the house of God was not to be compared but truly modeled Psalm 84:10, “For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.” Dorothy remained successful as a CAN in the healthcare field until her retirement in 2020. Mother Dorothy was predeceased by her father, Henry Heartfield and mother, Mattie Pearl Cox; sister, Willie Mae (Arthur) Slater of Alabama; brother, Charles Henry Heartfield of Alabama, sister, Ethel Thomas of Florida. Mother Dorothy is survived by Roosevelt Curry, three (3) daughters: Veronica Heartifield, Vernitria (Cornell) Heartfield and Romicka Curry all of South Haven, MI; three (3) grandchildren: De’Leon Stewart, Zaria Long and Jai’ana Heartfield White, of South Haven, MI; and two (2) great-grandchildren: Zavhier Heartfield and Lucian Hensley Stewart. Siblings, Dessie Mae Heartfield, Mary Shaw, Reverend Johnnie (Vivian) Heartfield, Deloris (Edward) Bryant all of Alabama and Regina (William) Manley of Florida. A host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends; and two special children, Eddie Garcia-Ross and Silita Gist and one grandson, John Bell survive to celebrate her legacy. A graveside service will be held at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Theodore, AL, officiated by Reverend Johnnie Heartfield at 11:00 a.m. Memorial services entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home.
