Doris Merritt

Doris Marie Singley Merritt of Theodore, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at the age of 90. Born October 3, 1934, in Silas, Alabama, to the late Mary Stokely Singley and Frazier Singley, Doris called Theodore home for most of her life. Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Claude Everett Merritt; sons, Joseph Harold Daugherty and Tommy Everett Merritt; granddaughter, Kellie Desiree Merritt; great grandchildren, Hadley Nicole Perkins and Brett Leon Childress; brothers, Fred Singley, Pete Singley; sisters, Midget Singley Johnson, Faye Singley Johnson, Bobbie Singley Jackson. She is survived by her daughter, Bobbie Sue Pope (Ricky); son, Terry Wayne Daugherty (Lisa); son, Ronald Lane Daugherty; daughter, Patricia Ann Bonner (Steve); son, Charles Edward Merritt; 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren; sister, Betty Singley Wise. Doris had 7 children, 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren that she raised and loved with all of her heart. Family was everything to her. She loved cooking for her family and friends. Saturday morning yard selling was one of her favorite pass times. She always had a summer garden and would spend endless hours with the people she loved sitting on the back porch shelling peas and yelling at the grands. She loved reading her bible and blasting praise music while her hands were lifted high in worship. Her home was always a place of rest and comfort. She was generous beyond measure with her time, prayers and willingness to give a helping hand. She was such a strong, independent, resilient woman who never let anything keep her down for long. Doris was a force of nature that was driven solely by her love for Jesus and her endless devotion to making sure everyone she knew or met had the opportunity to hear about him. If she had the chance to tell someone about what Jesus did for her, she did. There are countless souls that have reaped the benefit of her love for her Christ and willingness to share His word with them. Oh what a crown she received when she entered heaven. Doris was a member of Theodore Church of God where she served as a greeter for many years. She loved her church family and was grateful for their love and support through the years. Her presence and prayers will be greatly missed. Her hugs will forever be felt. Her love will endure always. Her devotion to Christ will hold us accountable. Her smile will be on our hearts forever. Her goodness will be shared for generations. Her memory will live on through all of us. How blessed are we to have loved her and to be loved by her. Services will be held Monday, July 28, 2025 Family visitation: 8:30am Public viewing & visitation: 9:00-11:00am Funeral service: 11:00am Cemetery procession immediately following. A gathering for family and friends will take place after cemetery service at Theodore Church of God, 6360 Theodore Dawes Rd. Theodore, AL 36582.
