Donald Wilson Howell

Donald Wilson Howell, 83 passed away on May 18, 2023, in Mobile, AL. He was born on December 7, 1939, and was a native of Mobile AL. Donald met his appointment with death after a short battle with cancer and is now in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was welcomed by so many loved ones and friends who were there to greet him. Because of his testimony, we know we will see him again one day, and that gives us great comfort. We give thanks to our Lord for the 83 years we had with him here on this earth. Donald retired after 30 years of service with the Department of Defense at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL. His life’s journey included two years in the Army while stationed in Herzogenaurach, Germany from January 1957 – December 1959. Donald played a vital role in our national security by providing America’s leaders with the critical information they need to defend our country. Donald’s life was shaped by his deep spiritual relationship with the Lord. Anyone who knew him knew about the love he had for his church, where he ran the sound system for over 30 years. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, a dear friend, and a faithful brother in Christ. He has touched many lives. Donald was preceded in death by his mother, Xyr Eldora (Christian) Howell; father, Vaudie Wilson Howell; sister, Marilyn L. (Howell) Johnson; son, Paul Wilson Howell; a special nephew, Timothy Carl Merrill Bonus Grandson, Jonathan Cooper; and his first wife, Linda Faye (Piper) Young. Donald is survived by his wife of 23 years, Rita Faye (Warren) Howell; son, David W. (Cindy) Howell; daughter, Dawn M. (Mark) Butler; brother, Jerry W. (Bonnie) Howell; grandchildren, Amy N. Howell, Alexandra M. (Alex) Gonzalez, Ashley M. (Daniel) Nolan, Andrew M. Howell, and Jackson H. Butler; great-granddaughters, Lilly Gonzalez, Ella Gonzalez, and Piper Nolan; Bonus-daughters, Veronica A. Cooper, Theresa A. Mecsko, and Katrina L. (Rob) Hurst; Bonus-grandchildren, Garrett Cooper, Trey Mecsko, Raegan Mecsko, Wyatt Hurst, and Charleigh Hurst; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, wake to start at 11:00 am and Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. at Snow Road Missionary Baptist Church, 809 Snow Road N., Mobile, AL 36608. His pastor, Eld. J. N. Long will be the officiant. Interment will follow at Serenity Memorial Cemetery, 8691 Old Pascagoula Rd, Theodore, AL 36582. We have the most amazing church family at Snow Road Missionary Baptist Church who continuously held us up in prayer, and we wouldn’t have gotten through this without their love and support. A special thanks for the care provided by the staff of Mobile Infirmary and Saad’s Hospice Retreat. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be made to Snow Road Missionary Baptist Church, Treasury Fund.
