Craig Carroll Sr.

Dr. Craig Carroll, Sr. was born in Opp, AL on August 9, 1948. He went to live eternally with the Lord on November 17, 2020. He is preceded in death by his father, Bertie Carroll; his mother, Annis Carroll; and his daughter, Tammy Carroll. Craig is survived by his wife, Linda Jackson Carroll; son, Craig Carroll, r. (Victoria); daughters, Veronica Hoeick (Les), Jennifer Hamilton (Matt), Janet Carroll (Floyd Deakle), and Joann Carroll; fourteen grandchildren, Elizabeth (Cody), Matthew (Megan), Gus (Nichole), Amber, Brittany (Curt), Haley (Austin), Heather, Garrett, Bailey, Tammy, John, Coleton, Sadie, and Eloise; 10 great-grandchildren, Kaden, Khloe, Kenlee, Kylee, Kaycee, Addison, Maeleigh, Henry, Zoe, and Olivia; sister and brother-in-law and love, Norma and Bo Baird; and his many nieces and nephews. Dr. Craig Carroll, Sr. was a resident of Irvington, AL. He moved to Mobile County in 1975. Prior to coming to the Gulf Coast, he resided in Opp, AL where he graduated from Opp High School in 1966 and worked his way through the cotton mills as a lead millwright. On the Gulf Coast, he became well known in the shipbuilding industry as a leader and first-class technician of all trades: welding, pipe fitting, ship-fitting, and outside machinist. Craig was the yard foreman for a number of local shipyards, and he created an outside machinist contracting company that served the area for over 20 years. During this time, he acquired three associate's degrees in instrumentation and drafting from Southwest State Technical College. Before completing his career in shipbuilding and retiring from Ingalls, Craig combined his love and pursuit of education with his true calling to be a minister of the gospel. Dr. Craig Carroll went on to achieve a bachelor's, then master's, and ultimately a Ph. D. in Clinical Christian Counseling from Cornerstone University. Craig was uniquely called to minister to the poor and vulnerable. Through Kairos Prison Ministries, he shared the gospel with individuals serving life sentences and on death row. At Mobile Rescue Mission, he provided compassion, care, and the love of Christ to those that are homeless. Most currently, at the Home of Grace, he counseled individuals battling addiction and presented the saving grace of Christ. Craig was involved with many community programs and served on the Board of Directors for Life Connections. He was a member of First Baptist of Bayou La Batre, where he taught scripture, ministered through music, and delivered a message from the pulpit when called upon. Craig was a faithful and selfless servant of the Lord. Only after his love for God was his love for family. He is our “Papa.” He is our “Daddy.” He is Linda’s breath. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 23, 2020, at First Baptist of Bayou La Batre. Public Visitation will be held from 12-2 pm. The funeral service will begin at 2 pm with graveside to follow. COVID guidelines will be followed. Mask will be required to attend the visitation, funeral, and graveside services. Seating will be limited but overflow seating will be provided. The service will be streamed through First Baptist Church of Bayou La Batre's Facebook for those who would like to attend virtually.
