Claudette Delores Austin

Claudette Delores Washington Austin, a native and resident of Prichard, AL was the firstborn child of the late Willie Girard and the late Mary Magadelene Washington. She peacefully departed this life on January 2, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband, Add Austin; son, Carlton Austin; and her parents. She was a 1954 graduate of Central High School. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, AL. She was employed as a dedicated registered nurse at various healthcare facilities for many years. She confessed Christ at an early age at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Prichard, AL under the pastorate and leadership of the late Reverend G.W. Lovett. She spent most of her adult life in Cleveland, OH where she united with Second Lakeview Baptist Church. She later returned to Prichard, AL and reunited with Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate and leadership of Apostle Carl Bolden. She later united with God’s Kingdom Ministries in Mobile, AL under the pastorate and leadership of Pastor Benjamin Torrence, Sr. where she served faithfully until her health failed. Throughout the course of her membership at God’s Kingdom Ministries, she served as an active choir member and church mother. She was also active in the community as a member of Port City United Voices. She would also volunteer her time as a mission worker in nursing homes and would assist others in their time of need. She is survived by a loving devoted daughter, Carla Austin of Fredericksburg, VA; two devoted sons, William (Courtney) Austin of Killeen, TX and Sylvester Austin of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Jackson James Austin and Callum Joseph Austin of Killeen, TX; one loving devoted sister, Juanita Nichols of Prichard, AL; one brother-in-law, Ulysses (Sharon) Austin of Detroit, MI; sister-in-law, Helen Austin of Mobile, AL; devoted aunt, Addie Paulina Ely; devoted nephews, John (Shirley) Mixon of Montgomery, AL, George (Tessa) Austin of Thomaston, GA, and Anthony Austin of Mobile, AL; devoted cousins, Nedra Boykins of Prichard, AL; devoted friends, Mattie (James) Abner of Oakland, CA; devoted friends, Tenesha Burpo, Cedora Burpo, Ramonica Burpo, and Margaret Munnerlyn, all of Mobile, AL, Anna Smith of Lawrenceville, GA; special friends, Tenesha Burpo, Sedora Burpo, Monica Burpo of Mobile, AL, Kettura Dunn of Tuskegee, AL and Miquel Taylor Ortiz of Fredericksburg, VA; and a host of relatives and friends.
