Christine Barren Douglas

After 60 years as a sojourner on this side of the river, Christine Barren Douglas' heavenly mansion was completed and the Lord called and welcomed her to her heavenly home on October 5, 2022. Christine was always a great encourager and (standing in the gap) intercessor with a heartwarming smile that captured the hearts of all who knew her. Christine accepted Christ at an early age. She united with the Macedonia Baptist Church where she was baptized under the leadership of Dr. E. L. White in 1969. Later, she united with the St. Mark Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir and served on the Usher Board. Christine of late was a member of Mount Nebo Baptist Church under the direction of Rev. Robert Palmer, Sr. Christine was a graduate of Mattie T. Blount High School, class of 1980, where she was a member of the school's choir. On October 4, 1986, Christine married the love of her life, Andrew "Dee" Douglas. They lived in Mobile, AL and Redlands, CA before settling in Baton Rouge, LA, which she called home for over 30 years. She quickly became an integral part of Kingdom-building by becoming a member of the Progressive Baptist Association and served as president of the youth department. She became an active member of the metro city's prayer hotline where she was a powerful prayer warrior and intercessor. She worked as a pre-school teacher for 26 years and was recognized as an outstanding one. She served as first lady of the North 19th Street Baptist Church for 8 years. Christine was preceded in death by her mother, Janie Mae Barren. She leaves to cherish the precious memories of her beautiful spirit and smile, a loving and devoted husband of 36 years, Andrew O. Douglas; loving father, Lee R. Barren; 5 siblings, Delores (Johnny) Powell, Lee (Hermione) Barren, Mary B. Harris, and Nancy (Ellis) Fancher, all of Mobile, and Bernard Barren of Dallas-Fort Worth, TX; devoted brother-in-law, Robert Douglas of Baton Rouge, LA; 10 nieces and nephews, Sharonda (Joe) Harris-Marshall of Omaha, NE, Corderrol Harris of Brooklyn, NY, Lee Barren, Jr. and Christopher Fancher of Mobile, Simone and Naomi Barren of Dallas-Fort Worth, Monica Douglas of Los Angeles, CA, Duane Douglas of Lubbock, TX, Lyndon Douglas of Quincy, FL, and Kudura Douglas of Wesley Chapel, FL; 3 devoted god-children, Destiny Porter, Kimani Wilson, and Derrick Wilson, Jr.; 2 devoted and dedicated daughter-like ladies, Kimberly Wilson and Nakia Williams; 2 devoted aunts, Dorothy Gamble and Gertrude Barren; 2 devoted uncles, Nathaniel Barren and Joe N. Barren, Sr.; 6 devoted and dedicated sisters-in-Christ, Pearl Porter, Rebecca Palmer, Betty Tolbert, Rev. Deborah Douglas, Gayle Lavigne, and Bernadine Wright; and a host of devoted and beloved cousins, other family members, friends, classmates, church members, co-workers, and ex-students. Christine will always be remembered for encouraging and lifting up everyone she knew in prayer. Her favorite statement was, "I am standing in the gap." Her favorite pastimes included taking Sunday rides with Dee, sitting in her recliner next to Dee watching westerns (such as John Wayne movies including El Dorado), good times, and older comedy sitcoms, and singing beautiful gospel music. The loving spirit of Christine will never depart from us; she will live on in our hearts forever. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022 from 9-11 AM, followed by service at 11 AM. Interment will be held in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
