Charles Thurman Lucas

Charles Thurman Lucas, age 84, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023. Charles grew up in Georgiana, Alabama and graduated from Georgiana High School in 1957. He married his wife, Frandell Lee Lucas, on July 2, 1960. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage. Charles was a pipe welder at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula for 36 years before retiring in 2001. He loved sports and did a lot of coaching for his family throughout the years. He coached his son, Vic, in baseball and football, and his daughter, Jana, in softball, and for his oldest grandson, Chad. He was his grandchildren's biggest fan and never missed baseball and softball games, soccer and tennis matches. When there wasn't a grandchild to watch play sports, you could find Charles cheering on his beloved Atlanta Braves baseball team from the first practice of spring training until the last game of the season. He also enjoyed Alabama Crimson Tide football. When he wasn't watching sports, Charles loved to hunt and fish and spent lots of time with Vic doing both. Charles was a godly man with deep faith. He led his family in the path of righteousness and was a faithful and serving member of Travis Road Baptist Church for most of his adult life. If there has ever lived a genuine Christian, it was Charles. He was known to go back to the grocery store if he ever accidentally walked out with something in his buggy that didn't get paid for. He would correct a cashier if he received too much change. He was honest, honorable, and ethical. He was a praying man and a man who loved God's Word. There is no doubt that Jesus greeted him with "Well done, good and faithful servant." Charles was loved by everyone who knew him. He was quick to joke and even while sick in the hospital he was still trying to make the nurses smile. He was a loyal husband and a wonderful father. Charles Lucas was a good man. He will be greatly missed. Charles is survived by his loving wife, Frandell Lucas; his son Victor Lucas (Kimberly), his daughter Jana Rainwater (James); his grandchildren: Chad Lucas, Melissa Pitts (Brad), Jake Rainwater (Tabitha), Joshua Rainwater (Ellie), and Julia Rainwater; his great-grandchildren: Olivia Lucas, Matthew Lucas, Harper Mae Rainwater, Lewis Rainwater, Will Pitts, Victor "Jack" Pitts, Mason Pitts, and Emily Pitts. A visitation for Charles will be held Wednesday, October 4, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Serenity Funeral Home, 8691 Old Pascagoula Rd., Theodore, AL 36582, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Charles will be laid to rest in Serenity Memorial Gardens.
