Carl "Bud" Nelson McBride

Carl Nelson “Bud” McBride, age 82, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2019 at his home in Mobile, Alabama surrounded by family. Bud was born on September 22, 1936 in Kosciusko, Miss. Bud’s passion was short track racing and working. He was able to mix those 2 into a business that he owned for nearly 50 years on Dauphin Island Parkway. At his shop, Parkway Welding Service, you could go by anytime of night and find him working or “shooting the breeze” with many of his buddies. And there was always a pot of coffee going. Bud was active in the racing scene around Mobile International Speedway and Five Flags Speedway. He built racecars from the ground up without any blueprints, all from memory. He built countless safe roll cages for fellow racers, as well as some engines. Bud never minded helping other racing enthusiast like himself, including many up and coming racers that loved the sport as much as he did. Most remember his many stories of racing and life around the Gulf Coast, and he had plenty to tell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Noah McBride and siblings, Bit McBride, Mary Jackson, Margie Holmes and Travis McBride. He talked of them often. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Edith Denney McBride. He leaves behind 3 caring daughters and their husbands, Lynda (John) Clough, Sharon (Jerry) Markow, and Nona (Richard) Fultz, 7 grandchildren to cherish his memory, Sara (Paul) Gaston, Sean Clough, Kevin Clough, Lesleigh Clough, Wesley (Kat) Boudreaux, Raymon Fultz and Waylon Fultz, 14 great grandchildren, 2 devoted great grandchildren, Jared Gaston and Gabe Gaston, sisters, Jeanne Wilkerson and Peggy Reynolds, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Lastly, the family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Asera Hospice Care for all that they did to care for Bud at home. Wanda and Randi, we could not have done this without your love and compassion. A special nephew, Mark McBride, special cousin, Robin Williams and special friends, Linda Irish Clark and Hannah Sjolander. Services will be officiated by Brad Busby and Tina Nelson. A memorial service will be held in the Serenity Funeral Home Event Center on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at 2pm with visitation from 12 noon until service time.
