Alphonso James Davis Sr

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father & brother, Alphonso James Davis, Sr., who departed this life on June 14, 2025, at the age of 75. He touched the lives of many with his kindness, wisdom, and quiet strength. Alphonso was born in Autaugaville, Alabama, to the late Rosetta Davis-Andrews. At an early age, he moved to Mobile, Alabama, where he spent his childhood in the loving home of his grandparents, the late Eugene and Uola Davis. Alphonso attended Whitley Elementary School, graduated from Mobile County Training School, and later earned his degree from Miles College. After college, Alphonso began working for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad (ICG), which later became part of the became part of the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio Railroad (GM&O). He went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Navy. In later years, he worked at the Kimberly-Clark plant in Mobile, Alabama, where he remained until his retirement. Alphonso was an active and devoted member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Prichard, Alabama. His faith was central to his life, and he found joy in sharing Bible truths, participating in the ministry, and supporting his congregation in any way he could. Whether through teaching, offering encouragement, or assisting with maintenance at the Hall, he served with steadfast faith. Alphonso was a practical, humble man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He kept himself active, often enjoying sit-ups and push-ups. He also worked on home projects and could often be found fixing, building, or improving something with care and purpose. He took pride in his work, his family, and his service to Jehovah. His steady presence and genuine spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Alphonso married young and later entered a second marriage, though it was not lasting. Through life’s ups and downs, he remained devoted to his role as a father—doing the best he knew how. He was deeply proud of his children, who brought him great joy and a strong sense of purpose. His love for them was steady and sincere, and he took pride in the people they became. Alphonso James Davis, Sr. was preceded in death by his mother, Rosetta Davis-Andrews, and his grandparents, Eugene and Uola Davis.
