Albert William Hurd III

It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved Albert William Hurd III (“Billy”), who departed this life on November 14, 2025 at the age of 72. Family and friends are forever grateful for the time, love, and memories he provided them. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Billy lived a life rooted in faith, loyalty, hard work, and shared a deep connection to the people and traditions he cherished. Billy was born on February 24, 1953 in Mobile, Alabama. From a young age, he demonstrated a remarkable curiosity and zest to explore a life outdoors. Billy attended Murphy High School, where he graduated and soon thereafter started working at International Paper in Moss Point, Mississippi. After working at International Paper, he continued his career at a local industrial pump repair company for 15 years where he eventually retired. Billy was a cherished man whose warmth and kind spirit touched everyone he met. A man of simple treasures and meaningful traditions, Billy loved hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors with family and lifelong friends. The woods, water, and peacefulness they offered were some of his greatest joys. Billy was a devoted Catholic and a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Grand Bay, Alabama. His faith has guided, strengthened, and helped shape the kindness he extended to those around him. Billy was preceded in death by his father, Albert W. Hurd Jr.; mother, Margaret Mahfouz Hurd; maternal grandparents, Pete and Mary Mahfouz; and paternal grandparents, Albert W. Hurd Sr. and Earnie Mae Hurd. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Burke Hurd who stood by his side throughout every season of life. He leaves behind his daughter, Eugenia (“Gina”) Hurd; his sons William (“Will”) Hurd (Mallory Hurd), and Michael Hurd; and his sisters, Brenda Hurd Loewen (Chris Loewen), and Mary Hurd Taylor (Benjie Taylor). Billy is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who held him close to their hearts. Proud of his family legacy, Billy treasured his role as “Papa” to his grandchildren – Justice Hurd (McKela Hurd), Mason Hurd, Natalie Davis, and Nora Kate Hurd. His family continues to grow with the addition of his great-grandchild, Riley Keyes. Billy’s life is full of stories and adventures that stem from the outdoors. He will be remembered for his steady spirit, deep love for his family, and the warmth he brought into every room. His legacy will live on through these adventures, shared stories, cherished memories, and the love he poured into those around him. The imprint he left on the lives of those around him will endure far beyond his years. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Billy’s life on Thursday, November 20, 2025. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass service will be held immediately after visitation. Both visitation and mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church located at 12450 AL-188, Grand Bay, Alabama 36541. Billy's memory will forever remain in our hearts. As our hearts are broken, we are grateful for the time we shared, the lessons we learned, and the love we received. He will be deeply missed.
