Alan Craig Bryant Sr.

Alan Craig Bryant, Sr., age 73, a lifetime resident of Bayou La Batre, AL, went to be with the Lord December 19, 2021. Craig graduated from Alba High School in 1967 before following in his father’s footsteps, becoming a Professional Engineer, attending Auburn University and the University of South Alabama. He started his career with the Army Corps of Engineers, before going to work with his father, Buford L. Bryant, at Polyengineering in 1970. He would go on to co-found Polysurveying of Mobile as the lead engineer. He was also a consultant for the City of Bayou La Batre and The Utilities Board of the City of Bayou La Batre. As a consultant for over 30 years, he has obtained $1.2 billion while managing over 250 projects. He worked on the design and funding for The Utilities Board Original Sewer Plant that was completed in 1976 by Polyengineering and funded by Grants from ADECA, Farmers Home and EPA and the construction oversight of the New Buford L. Bryant Wastewater Treatment Facility that was completed in 2012. He worked diligently though the years for The Utilities Board overseeing several other grants. USDA-Rural Development, Wastewater Outfall Line, the design and construction oversight of the CIAP (Costal Impact Assistance Program) Grant. Rural Development Shine Road Well Grant, GOMESA Sewer Extension Grant, Iron Filtration System grant, GOMESA Sewer Extension Phase 2 grant. These grants helped bring money to the City of Bayou La Batre for road improvements, parks, bridges, water supply and wastewater. He was currently working on several projects in design, the Filtration System for Shine Road Well, Water Distribution System Upgrades, The 5-Mile Extension of the wastewater outfall line and the rehab of the existing sewer system. Craig enjoyed spending time with his wife, Virginia, riding around the beach while smoking a cigar. He also enjoyed spending time with his sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He had a love of football, duck hunting, fishing, keeping his yard in pristine condition and was an avid golfer in his youth. Craig enjoyed cooking for his family and friends, perfecting his gumbo and West Indies recipes. Craig was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Kirk Bryant and his parents Buford Lee Bryant and Anita (Margie) Bryant. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Moore Bryant; sons, Alan Craig Bryant Jr, Lester Lee Bryant (Nicole) and Adam Keith Bryant (Amy); grandchildren, Paige Bryant Stewart (Jason), Brandon Bryant (Kelli), Leslee Bryant, Houston Bryant, Elizabeth Harvey (Jeffrey), Bailey Bryant, Taylor Bryant, Mackenzie Bryant, Daniel Bryant, Alexis Bryant, Brittany Bryant and Kaitlyn Cox; great grandchildren, Bryant Stewart, Foster Stewart, Sailor Bryant, William Harvey, Cameron Bryant, Kayden Cox, Waylon Cox and Alaina Cox; sisters, Sandra Hunt (George) and Felicia Douglass; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Craig overcame his disabilities and lived life to the fullest, always putting family before himself. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
