Wilma Jo Spanyer
February 9, 1965 - December 5, 2021
Wilma Jo Spanyer, age 56, passed away on December 5, 2021. She was born in Mobile, Alabama, to Joanne Edge Spanyer and James Winthrop Spanyer. She was one of three children, including sister, MariJo “Boo,” and brother, James Joseph, who died in infancy. Wilma is survived by her sister, MariJo; her special friends, Steven Jones and Amy Johnson Williams; and dear aunt, Irma “Midge” Harold. A lifelong Mobile resident, Wilma worked for the Mobile Public Library at the Main Branch for 22 years, retiring due to health in 2011. Her specialty was Interlibrary Loan where she was very good at locating books all over the nation for the library system’s customers. She herself was an avid reader who always needed several books by her side. She made many lifetime friends among her coworkers, including Christina Coxe, Betty Kidd, Tom and Lauryn Poynor, and Janice Harvison. She had a big heart and an infectious laugh that could be heard a mile away. She never met a kitty she didn’t love; a true cat whisperer. She will be dearly missed. The family will announce a celebration of her life at a later date.
