    Ralph Ernest Knox

    April 6, 1941 - January 11, 2022

    1st Sgt. Ralph E. Knox, United States Marine Corps (retired), age 80, has received his final orders and has reported to the Supreme Commandant on January 11, 2022. The 1st Sgt. was a 21-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of Vietnam. He is a native of Waukegan, Illinois and has been a resident of Mobile since 1982. Prior to his retirement from the Marine Corps, 1st Sgt. Knox was the Sgt. Major of 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Infantry Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, in Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. After retirement from the Marine Corps he was a graduate of Alabama Christian College, receiving his degree in Business Administration. The 1st Sgt. was very active in the Marine Corps League. He was a life member of the Marine Corps League, past Commandant of the P. L. Wilson Detachment, Mobile, for seven years, past Commandant of the Department of Alabama for two years, and past National Assistant Vice Commandant of the Southeast Division of the Marine Corps League for four years. He was a past Pound keeper of the Bulldog Pound #184 Mobile for many years and past Pack Leader of the Pack of Alabama, and a life member of the Military Order of Devil Dogs. He was a past Adjutant of American Legion Post #88 and Life Member of the American Legion Post #76, Mobile, and also a Life Member of VFW Post #49 Mobile. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge #108, Mobile. 1st Sgt. Knox is survived by his two sons, Mark (Tarah) and Daniel Knox of Mobile; and one daughter, Kara Lynn Knox of Daphne; grandchildren Stephen Knox, Christopher Alexander Perryman Knox, Lauren Hoven Knox, and Trinity Knox; other relatives, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence, Knox, Sr. and Esther Knox; one brother, Clarence Jr.; and two sisters, Bette Rees and Janice Molinaro of Zion, Illinois. The 1st Sgt. will receive full military honors from his fellow Marines of the United States Marine Corps. “Semper Fidelis Marine, your shift has ended.”
