Myrtis Marie Scott Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Myrtis Marie Havard Scott, age 91, a resident of Theodore, Alabama, went home to be with Jesus Saturday, July 23, 2022 surrounded by family at The Retreat at SAAD's Hospice. She was born in Lucedale, Mississippi on October 18, 1930 to Ellis and Lillie Belle Ranager Havard, Sr. Myrtis was born and raised on a farm and was surrounded by luscious gardens and many farm animals, which meant there was always good cooking going on in the kitchen. Everyone who knew her and sat around her table left full and smiling. Myrtis attended Shady Grove Baptist Church as a young girl and one day, caught the eye of a young soldier on leave. He told his brother that girl would one day be his wife. It wasn't long after that, he asked her to marry him. She didn't know he had already went to the courthouse before that; only to be told that he needed to bring his bride with him. He went back to the courthouse with Myrtis and on December 27, 1947 Myrtis Marie Havard married George Harold Scott. They moved to Mobile in 1947 to Sipsey Street where they lived for 5 years. On June 6, 1951 Brenda Gayle was born and on August 8, 1956 Sandra JoAnn was born. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Rangeline Road in Theodore, and then in 1969, she moved in to her present home. She was a homemaker until she took a job as a seamtress for Vanity Fair/South Mobile Mills, where she worked for 10 years. Myrtis also worked at Magnolia Springs Baptist Church Daycare for many years. She truly loved caring for the little ones there. She was a wonderful cook and a master seamtress. Myrtis loved her friends and they did everything together. They took trips to Hawaii, the Holy Land, several bus trips to Nashville, and many other adventures. She enjoyed her "exercise group" very much. The group consisted of Myrtis and her girlfriends visiting each others' homes, bringing with them a delicacy that was surely full of calories. The group would exercise briefly, then sit down to talk and eat the rest. She had so many Christian friends and did anything and everything that involved the church. She volunteered to help with many functions and organizations, including the church and Girl Scouts. Myrtis was also a member of the Eastern Stars for over 50 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Lillie Belle Havard; husband of 49 years, George Harold Scott; son-in-law, Jay Kranke; siblings: Joe E. Havard, Raymond Havard, Richmond Steve Havard, Clifton Havard, Ellis Havard, Jr., Gertrude Allen, Neldra Brown, and Anna Lee Padget. Myrtis is survived by her daughters, Brenda Kranke and JoAnn (James) Meadows; grandchildren, Chris Kiker, Jeremy Kiker, Shannan Kiker, Tammy (Paul) Segundo, Tony (Cheryl) Kranke, and Michael (Felicia) Quick; great-grandchildren, Michael (Ashley) Kranke, Greg (Amy) Kranke, Corey Leddick, Austin Kiker, Brandon Kiker, Stephen Kiker, Madison Segundo, Mason Segundo, and Triston (Zaylie Lang) Quick; great-great-grandchildren, Weston Kranke, Abby Kranke, Bella Kranke, and Henri Kranke; sister, Linda Sue Williams; great-granddogs, Bella and Tucker; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 29, 2022 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Serenity Funeral Home. The family will be accepting friends beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow at Serenity Memorial Gardens. Following graveside services, everyone is invited to the Celebration Center at Serenity for a reception in her memory.
