Mr. Governor Feagin, age 96 passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 26, 2021. Governor was born February 17, 1925, in Greenville, Alabama to Pearlie Griffin Feagin and Harrison Feagin. He departed Greenville at the age of 14 via railcar in search of the city lights of Mobile, Alabama where he resided until the age of 90 when he joined his daughter and her family in Louisiana. Governor was a WWII Army Veteran and the recipient of APTO, Good Conduct, and WWII Victory Medals. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Mobile and was employed as a machinist at International Paper Company until his retirement. Governor met and married Sarah Louise Taylor and remained married to her for 47 years until her death in 2005. He was a faithful member of Union Missionary Baptist Church and served in many capacities including but not limited to Chief Usher, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, and member of the Brotherhood until his relocation to Louisiana. Governor was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Taylor Feagin; mother, Pearlie Griffin Feagin; father, Harrison Feagin; brothers, John Alfred Feagin, Eddie Feagin, and Nealy Feagin, Sr. He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Elizabeth Feagin (Gerald Forrest); grandson, Taylor Young Forrest of Bossier City, Louisiana; sisters, Luemma Rutledge of Clairton, Pennsylvania, Lillie Mae Savage of Greenville, Alabama, Vera Colvin of Greenville, Alabama; brother, Leroy Feagin of Clanton, Alabama; brother-in-law, Washington Taylor of Mobile, Alabama, sisters-in-law, Mildred Belt (Willie Belt) of Jackson, Mississippi and Ruth Ballard of Mobile, Alabama; god-daughters, Helen Pratt and Wanda Herron Henderson of Eight Mile, Alabama; god-son, Shedrick Lafayette of Houston, Texas; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends to cherish his memory. Special thanks to Drs. Wen Liu, Timothy Nicholls, Ashok Kompelli, and Randall White for excellent care. Special thanks to Waterview Court Senior Community, Northwest Louisiana Veterans Home, and Regional Hospice for excellent love, care, and concern. Public viewing will be held from 5-7 PM on Friday, September 10 at Serenity Funeral Home in Theodore, AL. A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 11. All attendees for the graveside services are requested to meet at Serenity Funeral Home, 8691 Old Pascagoula Road, Theodore, AL 36582, prior to the graveside service time, for procession to the cemetery, under the direction of funeral home staff. Masks and social distancing will be strictly enforced.
